Two words: hell yeah!
The story of Lilas and the triumvirs will have you wondering what on earth is gonna happen next. The plot is fast-paced and takes us through a world where the Triumvirate and the Knighthood are at odds. Among it all is Lilas, a confused (and oh-so-very-powerful), super young and active triumvir, who does not pull back punches when it comes to helping her family and friends.
The story starts when the knighthood is killed in a mysterious manner. There is a truce going on among the good, the evil, and the in-betweeners in order to avoid complete chaos that would cost lives, and as such, the crime is taken seriously and is throughly investigated. What follows is an action-packed story, full of twists and turns.
The lore behind the world created by Nadi Abdi is incredibly intriguing and rich, and it pulled me in from the very beginning. You will find demons, vampires, ghosts, and so much more in these pages. It's a really fun story! You will laugh out loud with some of Lilas' remarks and then want to cry along her when things happen to her friends or herself. The author masterfully crafted a story that will really have you invested in what happens to the characters.
That being said, I was a little lost at points, probably because I didn't read the other Lilas book yet. I believe that if a little summary of things was included, everything would have made much more sense and would have flown a lot easier. You're given a world full of lore, but not much in regards to explaining what was behind it or why. Again, probably because the explanation was in the previous book, so no fault of the author at all.
Another point is that there is no real ending to the story, but given that this is book 1, that makes sense. Some paragraph constructions also made it hard to understand who was talking at times or who the person speaking was referring to, but that only happened a few times.
Overall, this was a fun story. I'd definitely recommend this, even if it is just read as a stand-alone book.
I would like to express my gratitude for having received an online copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
