read the book while at target because i wanted to see how they handled the people eating in a children’s book; spoiler alert, they didn’t (but they did paint sharks in a positive light which i enjoyed)
"Suddenly, the shark bursts out of the water! It is very, very big. The boat suddenly seems very, very small. You’re gonna need a bigger boat."
This book was a cute addition to the Jaws franchise.
The illustrations are adorable and it takes away the scariness of sharks and the dark deep water. Even though Sharks terrify me, this was super cute. The story was good too! Kids younger and older will love this. I know that I did.
I support a children's retelling of Jaws because a) I'm a huge fan of the movie and think everyone should be a fan of the movie, and b) I'm also a huge fan of sharks and having a book that tells the story without villainizing the shark is kinda genuis. Additionaly, I think 3 year olds would find this kind of exciting even without the deaths. I mean, that is the target audience here, right? Or is it me after all? Did they make this little book just for me?
It's adorable. I had friends over to watch "Jaws" together and they flipped through and didn't like it, didn't think it was cute??? Not gonna lie, made me reconsider how we could be friends...
And yes, of course I'll count this towards my Goodreads challenge. It's a book, with words, and pages. Why wouldn't I count it? Why?
My son bought me this book for Christmas gift to add to my “Jaws” collection. Love it! So cute! Gets the main points from the movie and shows Jaws in a positive light for little kids. I did get a kick out of reading “DaDum” throughout the book when Jaws was in the page. So cute!
As soon as I saw this book, I HAD to have it. I mean, it's Jaws. A classic movie we've all watched and enjoyed at one time or another. Sometimes more than once.
I was also very curious about how they would adapt such a violent and bloody story to make it kid-friendly. Well, they TOTALLY did. Not only is this set in the same place and has the same characters, but it constantly mentions the iconic music we all know and love—Da-dum, Da-dum.
And Jaws, well, if you're wondering how that man-eating shark can be portrayed as cute, you'll have to read this beautiful book. Loved the ending, too.
An excellent introduction to Jaws if you’re ~cultured~ and, like our family, want to show your kids this classic. Definitely much better than the way my mom did it, by letting her too-young-even-for-preschool kiddos watch this alone in a dark room and traumatizing me with 🥲
As Spider's mom (and a big fan of the movie), I had a really good time reading this book to him. It was very funny seeing the story mashed into this format. I also felt like it did an excellent job of demonstrating opposites. I don't know if it was as much fun for little Spider though. Even though death was completely removed from the story, the illustrations of the shark were still pretty scary. We probably won't read this one again, because I can completely imagine it being one of those books that sticks in a kid's head and makes them afraid of the ocean.
I didn’t even realise my other half had this! 😂 He literally said to me “what’s that gold thing behind my Jaws sunglasses?” I pulled it out and it was a Junior Jaws book (part of his Jaws obsession🫢I mean collection) and I had to read it of course!
This book is great for little ‘nippers’ to learn big and small objects and the illustrations are great. I laughed at some of the wording but then remembered it is for kiddies and only slightly touches the likeness of the movie. 🦈 🌊 📖
As Jaws is my favorite movie, this was too cute to pass up. It also goes along well with my themed Funko pops of the characters. This is a good take on the classic story while paring it down to be super kid-friendly. No deaths or maiming happen here.
The illustrations were colorful and adorable. The nods to the film were nice and the situations taught about opposites worked quite well. A nice way to teach opposites and slowly introduce kids to this story.
Funko Jaws is totally adorable, and it appears all his human friends are, too. This is a nice book exploring the topic of opposites that a younger audience could enjoy. I can almost hear kids yelling out the topic words as they appear from page to page. Speaking of, I was intrigued to see how they could make Jaws more kid-friendly and not a savage, bloodthirsty monster that shreds through people. But it worked! It ended on a nice note... kinda!
Absolutely LOVED this adorable book! It's a sanitized version of the movie, as the shark "plays" with the people and gets tired at the end and swims away. The chief still believes that they'll need a bigger boat, but that's just the opposite of what they have currently! Seriously, as a lifetime mega JAWS fan, this book just made me smile and smile and smile! And the last picture is awesome!
Book is quite cute and a fun summation of the movie, not to mention a good intro for kids; the book itself certainly feels constructed of lower quality material than the other ones we have in the house.
Haha this was part of my 2025 goal to read what’s on my shelf! I definitely prefer the adult version but the artwork gave me a chuckle. Definitely worth indoctrinating your kid into Jaws Fandom with this book. Just look out for Fins in the water!
This book is a hilarious summary of one of the greatest movies of all time, fine for the young ones because it doesn’t show what happened in the movie- happy endings for all.
Very cute version of Jaws. Mostly illustrations and a little bit of text. Which includes the famous line "You're gonna need a bigger boat." Everyone (shark, humans) survive this story.
