"Hannibal" by Robert Green shows the difficult life of a Carthaginian war general from a long time ago. Hannibal led a huge army through some of the highest mountains and through the widest rivers to get to Italy from Carthage. On this journey his army also had to face many mountain tribes that killed his army. When he got to Italy many battles happened and you should read the book to find out what happens.
I thought that this book was very informational and interesting. It shows how hard life was a very long time ago and how different it was. The book started off very boring but then when the army started to travel it got very interesting.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes history and is in their teenage years. It is very factual which is great for anyone who wants to learn about old history.
I checked this out from the library to read to my daughters, but ended up reading it myself. The author presents a very good background of the second Punic wars and Hannibal's campaign in Italy, but it does a fantastic job of portraying Hannibal as a fascinating figure and a force to be reckoned with.
Good biography for middle grade school. My first grader enjoyed the pictures and the captions that explained what was going on. She was especially impressed that Hannibal swore to hate the Romans because his father did. Good introduction to the Punic Wars.
