I will say this is a wonderful new series from a wonderful author. I fell in love with Jace from the beginning.
Jace is a nice guy the kind you want in your life for he is smart, handsome and kind. However, he is part of the wealthy Abernathy ranching family. He spends most of his time working on ranch. He is also a volunteer firefighter who works regular shifts at the firehouse. An all-around American Cowboy that would run into a fire and save you. Jace is best known around town as a bachelor. He dates women that needs help in some way and gives it his all until a problem is fixed or the lady becomes dependent on him or he isn’t interested anymore. He is known as the white knight in his family and promises to do better.
In the beginning Jace spots a fire in progress and saves a lady in active labor while in her apartment and gets her away from the fire. You as the reader ache for Jace as he delivers this baby and realizes the mother is in a bad way. She pleads with him to raise her baby if she doesn't make it, as neither she nor the baby's deceased father had any family. Jace agrees to the promise, hoping it won't be needed. Later he arrives at the hospital to find out she died. Jace keeps his promise and makes a bit of chaos at the hospital when he tries to see little Frankie. The nurse Tamara talks him down agreeing to let him see the baby, before sending him on his way.
Tamara loves her job as OB nurse, getting to care for the mothers and their babies. She is devoted to her job after breaking things off with her low life cheating boyfriend. Due to that experience, she has no patience for men at the moment and with Jace's insistence that he wants to foster and adopt baby Frankie strikes her as a nice fantasy due to she knows the requirements to foster and adopt and Jace doesn’t meet a lot of the requirements. But she melts each time she sees this rugged man holding little Frankie and thinks they should be together.
I enjoyed watching the relationship grow. Jace's motivation is noticed, and with the help of family and the town, Jace gets foster status for Frankie. He enlists Tamara to help him learn how to care for Frankie. Neither are looking for a relationship. Tamara is still cautious of getting involved with Jace and wants to concentrate on Frankie. Yet the both of them can feel the sparks developing between them.
There are a few mishaps up to their happy ending. Jace realizes that Tamara is the one for him and has trouble holding back his feelings. Meanwhile, Tamara is cautious of their feelings and fears that she's heading into a mistake. Sorting out her feelings comes from an unexpected source, and Tamara can see that she belongs with Jace.
The Maverick’s Surprise Son delivers such a heartwarming introduction to the Montana Mavericks: Lassoing Love series. It took about four seconds to fall in love with Jace – that might be a record time for me. He’s just a good guy, maybe with a bit of “white knight on a charger” syndrome when it comes to picking the wrong ladies to fall for, but his heart is always in the right place. Even when his habit of jumping in too quickly to rescue someone gets him teased, a lot, by his family and friends, Jace acknowledges it with the hope of one day changing that pattern. He simply didn’t know how quickly that opportunity would arrive.
I absolutely loved this tale of a part-time firefighter, a full-time rancher with a heart of gold, a man who believes in promises and happy endings. He made a promise to the mother of the baby he’d just delivered… and he intends to keep that promise. Nothing and no one, especially Tamara, will change his mind on this simple fact. Tamara is one of the nurses who took care of baby Frankie when he was brought into the hospital. She’s a believer in rules, in doing what works, and she’s also very leery of any man right now after finding her jerk of a former fiancé cheated on her. She also has a good heart, she’s not vindictive, but she also cannot see how Jace can possibly foster with the intent to adopt little Frankie. Her opinion of him, and her knowledge of the system just cannot see a way where that’s possible. But she’s underestimated Jace, and his family… and perhaps the majority of their community.
I look to the first book in any series to grab my attention, to hook me on needing to know more, of whatever comes next. The Maverick’s Surprise Son did that with ease. I need to know what happens to his siblings as they find their forever loves; I want the chance to see Jace, Tamara, and baby Frankie for cameo appearances (fingers crossed). If you love a well-written, fast-paced, emotional romance full of perhaps opposites but still good people finding their way to creating a lifetime together… then you’re going to love this one.
Jace Abernathy comes from a family of ranchers. He’s also a volunteer firefighter. Jace’s life is about to take a turn he didn’t see coming in more ways than one. Tamara Hanson is a nurse working at the local hospital. She’s just gone through a break up with the man who cheated on her and isn’t looking for a relationship. Tamara is about to fall in love with a local rancher when she helps him keep a promise. Jace and Tamara weren’t expecting that The Maverick’s Surprise Son just maybe the promise that brings them together.
Christine Rimmer kicks off the latest sub-series Lassoing Love in the Montana Mavericks series with her book The Maverick’s Surprise Son. She takes two people who have been unlucky in love and gives them a baby to help them hopefully find true love. Jace Abernathy has always went for women who need to be rescued or helped. Tamara Hanson always seems to pick the wrong man. When this rancher & volunteer firefighter makes a promise to a dying young mother to adopt her newborn son. He’ll ask a local nurse for help going through with the promise. This nurse just out of a relationship with her cheating ex-boyfriend isn’t looking for a new relationship. Tamara agrees to help a local rancher with his adoption process but only as friends. When their feelings become more than the attraction and friendship they’ll find the perfect person. The Maverick’s Surprise Son is a modern western romance with a twist. A welcome addition to the Montana Maverick series and the first book in the new sub-series Lassoing Love. A romance with a cute baby, two sweet dogs and a cat. A stubborn man determined to keep a promise to a dying young woman and a nurse who wants to help. A friendship turns quickly into a romance that may just lead to true love and a family. Meddling mothers, supportive family, help to move the story to the happily ever after Christine Rimmer fans expect. The Maverick’s Surprise Son has a little passion, working through problems that just may keep the love birds apart. Christine Rimmer starts this new sub-series of the long running Montana Mavericks series with this story in the Lassoing Love series. A great read if you love modern day cowboy romances and a quick read that will hook the reader into the Montana Maverick series like this reader has been for years. Christine Rimmer has been a favorite for years.
Jace Abernathy is a cowboy and firefighter who saved a pregnant woman who’s in labor from her apartment that was on fire. Jace had to deliver her baby boy. The young mother told Jace that her little boy doesn’t have any family because she and the father were raised in an orphanage. The father had passed the year before. So when she asked him to raise her son, he just couldn’t tell her no. He made her that promise. Tamara, a pediatric nurse told Jace that she didn’t make it. The baby, Frankie, the staff calls him, is fine though. Tamara let’s him know that the Social Worker will be by to get the baby. Jace told Tamara that he wants to raise the baby. Even though she tried to talk him out of it, he puts in his application. Will a single man be able to foster and then adopt the baby? Jace has lots of family that will help him since he lives on the ranch his family owns. They’re all willing to help. With the help of nurse Tamara how could he not get Frankie. Tamara just broke up with her cheating ex but can’t help be attracted to Jace. He’s nothing like her ex. Jace is kind, has a big heart, loves helping people and willing to put the time in to be a dad. Frankie and Jace bonded after he delivered the little boy. What’s not to love when there’s a baby, a couple who has lots of chemistry and a chance to become a family. Will Tamara learn to trust again? Will Jace and Frankie become a family? The characters are awesome. Christine Rimmer makes you want to root for this baby and man. Worth the read. I received this book for my honest review. I give it voluntarily
Another fantastic series starting with a sweet story.
I always enjoy a good, heartfelt story and the first book of a new family storyline delivers just that. I was drawn in from the first page by the Hero of this book. I connected with his empathy and his need to keep his word and help others. I usually connect with the Heroine, but this book was different. The connection between the two main characters was brought to life and was fun and frustrating at times but that is normal for a Rimmer romance. Jace is a hometown hero, volunteer firefighter and all-around great guy. Tamara is a nurse in the local hospital and is protecting her bruised heart. Baby Frankie is the sweet orphan that they both want to love and protect. For the first time, Jace finds someone that does not need him and that intrigues him, but Tamara wants no part of romance. Experiencing their journey of getting to know each other to eventually falling in love had all the ups and downs that the reader wants. This is a story that will grab your attention and your heart from the beginning and will leave satisfied and secretly wanting more. I cannot wait to read the next story from the Abernathy family. This book is a keeper and one that you will read repeatedly. This is a book you want to add to you summer reading.
I just loved The Maverick's Surprise Son by Christine Rimmer!!! Jace Abernathy is a hero in the making. He helps run the family ranch, volunteers as a fireman, is a devoted to his family, and specializes in helping people in need. When Jace pledges to raise an orphaned baby boy he delivers during a fire, he will stop at nothing to achieve his dream of fatherhood Tamara Hanson is a devoted labor and delivery nurse and vows to help Jace achieve his dream of raising the beautiful, little boy, Frankie. Tamara has a history of failed romance and an is estranged from her own father. She falls hard for Jace's charm and tenacity but isn't sure she can trust her heart again. Jace and Tamara feel an immediate attraction to one another. They each admire the other's devotion to helping those in need but must overcome their past romantic disasters to learn to love and trust again. Jace is a sexy, devoted hero that you will just love. Tamara is a complex modern woman navigating her way through love. Christine Rimmer creates complex, heartwarming characters that you will capture your heart and imagination. Once you read a Rimmer romance, you will be hooked! I simply loved The Maverick's Surprise son and cannot wait for her next swoon worthy romance!!!!
A beautifully written story in a new series by Christine Rimmer. Christine has a way of writing stories that captivate the reader and draw you into the story. The characters are relatable and the story lines intriguing.
In this story, Jace Abernathy is a rancher and fireman. While out running errands he spots a fire and rushes into the apartment only to find a woman in active labor. He carries her out of the house and assists in delivering the baby, named Frankie. He promises Frankie's mom that if something happens to her, due to her and the father having no living relatives, he will care for the baby. Later in the day, he stops by the hospital to check on the mom and baby, only to learn that she died. He goes to the nursery to see Frankie and encounters nurse Tamara Hanson. She allows him to see the baby when possible.
Jace has the support of his family and the town in becoming foster father to Frankie and Tamara helps him learn all about the care of the newborn. While neither is looking for a serious relationship, starting out as friends, over time, several ups and downs, they build a strong relationship and realize that they do belong together.
This book is one you will want to read in one sitting! Fast paced, with a good cast of characters about whom you will want to know more. Following Jace on his quest to keep his promise to a dying woman to foster Frankie is a true delight.
Jace Abernathy is almost perfect. He is every woman's dream man: Kind, considerate, intelligent, good looking, employed, community minded, and from a well-connected, wealthy, ranching family. So, why is he still single? His family and friends have convinced him he seeks out the wrong women. He decides he should look for an independent woman who doesn't need him to rescue her.
Tamara Hansen is an attractive, intelligent, compassionate nurse who has sworn off men after her ex cheated on her. As head nurse on the OB floor she and Jace clash when he tries to get in to see the orphan baby, Frankie. It does not take long for Jace to realize Tamara is the independent woman he has been waiting for. Their journey is not without bumps, but, even the bumps are interesting. I loved the girl fight,
Jace Abernathy is a rancher and a volunteer fire fighter for Bronco. He is a man that every woman dreams of but he has a knack of trying to “fix” people. Until he meets Tamara Hansen. They clash when Jace tries to see the orphaned baby who has been deemed “Frankie” by the nursing staff taking care of him. Jace is determined to be Frankie's father after promising Frankie’s dying Mother he would after a horrible fire in her apartment complex while she was in active labor. He soon realizes Tamara could be the woman he needs in his and cannot let her go. He not only promised to take care of newborn Frankie who was born with his help in the backseat of his truck but he promised to find “Morris” her cat who ran out the door, and remains aloof. This book was seriously a book I could not put down! You’ll have to pick it up or get it on your e-reader because seriously it was the best story I have read in a very long time! I don’t want to spoil the ending of this book but it is going to leave you craving for absolutely more!

The Maverick’s Surprise Son by Christine Rimmer is the first book in the new Montana Lassoing Love series. What a way to start a new series. This is a fast paced read that I read in one sitting. I immediately fell in love with Jace Abernathy. Upon finding an apartment engulfed in fire, he helps deliver a baby and immediately promises the mother that he will look after the baby if something happens to her. Not once does he think of himself but of that mother and baby.
When he checks on the baby, he meets Tamara Hanson a nurse at the hospital. Upon discovering the mother didn’t make it, he makes true to his promise and seeks to gain foster parent status. Tamara is right by his side throughout. It was fun watching their relationship develop. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly suggest reading it. I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review and this is my honest opinion.
What a fabulous story. Cowboy, volunteer firefighter, son, and brother, with a soft heart for any woman in distress, Jace Abernathy makes a death bed promise to the young woman delivering a baby in his truck. Tragically the young mother doesn't make it and now Jace is faced with following through on his promise or letting the system work.
For a man like Jace, he would never renige on the promise he made.
Tamara Hanson is the NICU nurse that took care of the baby when he was brought in, has named him, Frankie. She is also devastated by the death of the child's mother, but has faith in the foster care system. At first, she is concerned about the interest Jace has in Frankie, but soon realizes what a great guy Jace is!
A totally fulfilling story of promises, love, compassion, and going the extra mile for something you've promised, and for trusting your heart when your head is questioning your thinking!
Nurse Tamera Hansen is, in her words, a hot mess. In her past relationships, she was hurt again and again. Rancher and Volunteer Firefighter Jace Abernathy had a few relationships in his past. His problem was finding the ones who needed saving and ended up hurt in the process by caring too much. When he comes upon Melissa, she is pregnant and going into labor. She makes Jace promise that no matter what happens that he will take care of her baby. Jace comes face to face with Tamera in the hospital and finds Melissa didn't make it and that the staff has named the baby boy Frankie. Tamera's friends, Stephanie, Jace, and his family, show her that men can be trusted.
I loved this book. It's the first book of the new series "Montana Maverick's: Lassoing Love." Christine Rimmer is phenomenal at not only writing but describing the scenes of the story.
Jase Abernathy is a ranch hand and firefighter. One night on call, he happens on a fire in a small apartment community. There, he saves a woman and helps deliver her baby. The mom makes him make a promise about the newborn, and he doesn't take nor make them likely.
Tamara Hanson is a nurse where the mom and baby are taken. When Jase comes to let her know about his promise and his intentions to follow through, she tells him it won't happen. She does agree to help if needed, never thinking it will be needed.
As Tamera and Jace help him get ready for the newborn, they slowly start to see each other differently but hold back afraid to make a move. Between fluffy and sweet fur babies, friends, and family, this is a sweet book about making a secure home for a sweet orphan baby.
Well worth the read, as well as the rest of Christine Rimmer's books!
Jace Abernathy is a great guy with a very caring heart and the desire to do the right thing. As a firefighter he gives his very best. He saves a young mother to be from a fire and deliver's her baby in the back of his truck. The mother begs Jace to adopt her baby because he has no other family and then she passes away. Tamara is a nurse in the hospital Jace takes them to and while she is wary of getting involved with another guy after her latest break up she just can't resist helping Jace navigate the system to get Frankie (the baby) out of the foster care system. Tamara is full of self doubt and keeps giving not only Jace mixed signals but herself as well. Jace is all in but will Tamara follow her heart? I guess you will have to read it to find out.
I absolutely loved the first book in the new Montana Mavericks series Montana Mavericks: Lassoing Love - firefighting rancher Jace Abernathy makes a promise to a dying woman to take care of her baby boy, nurse Tamara Hanson tries to talk Jace out of it but soon realises he’s stubborn and determined to keep his promise. Tamara is reeling from a breakup with her sleazy cheating ex and is determined to stay in the friendship zone with Jace. Time spent together and the beautiful baby boy soon give them other ideas and love blossoms. I love the maverick series, the big loving families and the strong, independent yet vulnerable characters who grow and thrive when they find the one. Christine draws you in until you don’t want to put the book down until the very end.
As with any book by Christine Rimmer when you pick it up you know it will be a good one. This book did not disappoint. I read the whole book over two evenings and had a hard time putting it down when I had too.
Jace is a firefighter who showed up at a fire and pulled a woman in labor out of the burning building. She had her baby and the baby made it but she did not. With her dying breath she made Jace promise to take care of her baby.
This book will make you smile and cry through parts. It was a well written book with awesome characters and I can't wait to read more by Christine Rimmer.
"The Maverick's Surprise Son" by Christine Rimmer is a wonderful read! Jace Abernathy is a rancher and firefighter who delivers a baby after rescuing the mother from her burning apartment. The young mother begged him to protect the baby if she didn't make it.
Tamara Hanson is the nurse on duty when the young mother and her newborn are brought into the hospital. The mother didn't make it through the trauma and so begins Jace's journey to keep his promise.
Christine Rimmer doesn't disappoint in this fast-moving tale of how Jace becomes a daddy and of how Tamara, who didn't think much of Jace's chances at first, comes to fully support him in his quest.
The Maverick’s Surprise Son by Christine Rimmer is the latest entry into the Montana Mavericks. I love this fish out of water story. Jace Abernathy just wants to help people. When he saves a pregnant woman from a fire, he promises her he’ll raise her son if anything happens to her. He faces an uphill battle, but nurse Tamara Hanson is there to help him with the planning and the baby. Because they work so closely together, it’s inevitable that they’ll end up together. The three of them make a happy family. Christine delivers another wonderful story with heart warming characters with a wonderful fish out of water. I couldn’t put it down.
No matter what Christine Rimmer writes its sure to be hit. This is the first in a new series of the Mavericks. "The Maverick's Surprise Son" is about Jace Abernathy. He is a rancher and a volunteer fire fighter who ends up rescuing a mother and delivering her child from a burning building. The young mother makes Jace promise if she doesn't make it, that he'll will protect her baby from going into the system. Jace always keeps his promises and it a battle he has to win. The nurse on duty that night Tamara Hanson doesn't feel he is capable of taking care of a baby. Will she end helping him or not? Christine Rimmer doesn't disappoint. You'll find out when you read it.
Wow! I loved this book! Such a wonderful story of a man willing to keep his promise to a woman that he doesn’t know to raise her son as his own. Jace is a firefighter & EMT who makes a commitment and uses all the resources that he can muster to become the father to this baby boy. Tamara is a nurse who is one of those resources who helps him after her initial reservations and concerns. They have a lot to overcome in order to make an acceptable home for the authorities in order for Jace to adopt the boy. In the process they discover they discover love. Love how Christine always has strong capable heroines and heroes! Will Morris be found?
Not quite what the title implies. Volunteer fire fighter Jace Abernathy helps deliver a baby, but due to complications, the mother passes away, but not before she makes Jace promise to take care of the baby and her missing cat. The problem? Confirmed bachelor Jace knows nothing about taking care of a baby. But he takes his promises seriously, and with the help of nurse Tamara Hanson, who helped care for the mother in the hospital, Jace is on his way to fostering, then adoption. And Tamara is pretty special, too, but she's gun shy after her boyfriend cheated on her with another nurse in the hospital. The continuing mystery throught these 6 books? Where's the cat?
Little Frankie had no idea when he was born the part he would play in the love story of Jace {the firefighter who would save him and his mother] and Tamara {the nurse who would take care of him when his mother died.} Jace promised his mother he would raise him as hid own if anything happen to her. That he would be Frankie dad and he meant to keep that promise no matter how much the sexy nurse thought it was a bad idea. This is one of my favorite books by Christine Rimmer, I loved it I wanted more.
A promise kept. Jace Abernathy was always helping a woman in need, until he met Tamara Hanson. A woman that could stand on her own two feet. The once bitten twice shy beauty with a great heart. Jace and Tamara came together to help a little boy gain a family after he lost so much in his little life. Jace is a man that knows what he wants and that’s little Frankie and Tamara for life, in his life forever.Christine Rimmer’s stories sparkle with wit and sass. I couldn’t put it down and I’m sure you will love it ,too. Read “The Montana Mavericks Suprise Son.”
Another great read! I love this series and this book didn’t disappoint. Fast paced, couldn’t put it down read. You will love Jace and Tamara, they are perfect for each other. They say opposites attract and in this case they do. They both realize they need each other. She sees how much he loves that baby and as they grow together, she begins to see how they will be stronger together. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this great series!
Another heartwarming, page turning Montana Mavericks story you won't be able to put down by outstanding author Christine Rimmer. Upstanding cowboy/rancher/firefighter Jace Abernathy's nurturing nature has led to many failed relationships. He finally finds his perfect match in independent & compassionate nurse Tamara Hanson who has had her fair share of love disappointments. Together they make the perfect loving forever home that sweet orphaned baby Frankie needs & deserves!!!
I would give this book 10 stars!! It is fantastic from start to finish. Have is such a kind hearted main character. Tamara is a good character also. This story was so easy to get wrapped up in. Frankie was a great add in, along with Harley(the cat), and Bailey and Luna( the dogs). A very believable story.
A Rancher, Firefighter A guy that has the softest heart but gets it taken advantaged of, tries his hardest and to pulls all the strings he can, to fulfill a promise he makes to a pregnant woman he pulls out of a fire.. Will Jase Abernathy be able to complete the promise and find his heart desire in Nurse Tamara. Does he solve all his problems.
This was another phenomenal story by Christine Rimmer. As with any book wrote by her you know it will be good. I loved all the characters and how they supported each other. Right from the start the author caught my attention the way she always does and drew me into the story. Before I knew it I had turned the last page. I can't wait for the next book.
HEA with firefighter, nurse, baby, dogs and cats! OH MY!
This book was awesome. It has all of the best elements. A guy that "shows up" for the baby who's momma died in childbirth, and for the nurse that isn't sure that she can trust any guy ever again! Jace, Tamara and Frankie make an amazing family! Excellent outing for Christine Rimmer!
I couldn’t put the book down. Another winner for Christine Rimmer. Jace is the all American guy, smart, kind and caring, let’s not forget handsome. Jace makes a promise to the mom of the baby he helped deliver. When he realizes the mom didn’t make Jace sets out to keep his promise. Must read, you will be captivated from the first chapter.
