Caillou learns about healthy digital habits!

Caillou would like to watch a cartoon on Daddy’s tablet, but Daddy suggests they play a game on it together instead. Once the game is over and the tablet is turned off, Daddy continues to spend quality time with Caillou by reading him a book.

Screens are part of our daily lives and their use, especially with children, can be a challenging issue. It isn’t necessary to ban digital devices or unplug from everything all the time. But it is important to help your child establish a healthy relationship with electronics.

By setting a good example, adults teach children that these devices can be used to learn and have fun.

A timely book for parents as well as young children to remind them to limit screen time and to be aware of living in the moment.
The story starts with Caillou being picked up from preschool. His father interacts with him, gives him a cuddle. Caillou's friend Henry's father is on the phone, too busy to listen to his child.
At home Caillou asks for the tablet to watch cartoons. His father suggests they play a game together. After 15 minutes he says time is up and they read a book together.

I liked that the tablet was used in an educational way and not as a babysitting tool. Phones and tablets are a huge part of our and our children's lives and boundaries need to be explained and set from an early age.

Caillou Learns About Screen Time is just as much a story for parents to think about how they use technology as it is to teach children about limiting their screen time. The story opens with Caillou and his friend Henry playing at school. When their dads come to pick them up you see a contrast, Henry's dad is on his phone and ignores him, while Caillou's dad talks to him. When Caillou gets home and sees his dad's tablet, he wants to play a game on it. Dad plays with him, once again interacting with him, not letting the technology take over or be used as a babysitter. Once the game is finished they read together. I like that his dad interacts with him regularly. So many times we see parents on their phones, tablets or computers and kids are left to themselves. I think this is a good cautionary tale for parents as well as showing children that there are other things to do besides play on technology. As always the illustrations are large, colourful and attractive. They add much to the story. I recommend this book to all families with young children.

Caillou wants to use Daddy's tablet and wisely Daddy offers to share a game together which deflects Caillou from going solo. After the game the tablet is turned off and set aside. Daddy and Caillou then share a book together allowing them to still bond as father and son. Daddy shows Caillou there are plenty of alternatives to being in front of a screen which allow them to spend quality time together.

We must acknowledge in this day and age that technology is here to stay and is fun and engaging to little ones ( and to adults too! ). It's imperative that kids learn to manage and control their screen time when they are small and an adult who models that same behaviour sends a very powerful to their kids. Thankfully Caillou's daddy is there to coach and encourage him to understand when and for how long to use a screen.

The illustrations are vibrant, engaging and very kid-friendly. I highly recommend this book.

Hmmm... I'm not exactly sure Caillou learns a heck of a lot here, for there is a lot of unnecessary detail before we get to him using a tablet for a game with daddy, and then finding the time he's allowed it to be strictly limited. Why do we need all the nonsense of him playing ball at school, leaving school, seeing his friend having an ignorant shit of a dad, and everything else, first? These books aren't really for Caillou alone, they're for the Caillous of the world and their parents, and while this introduces an interesting idea about keeping tablet use for after toddler sibling's bedtime, the child won't be too keen on the lesson here, especially with its sudden semi-ending, and the back cover provides just as much as the rest of these pages do for the adult.

This children’s title is really a cautionary tale for the adults in their lives. Caillou and Henry play together at school. When they leave the building Henry’s father is on the phone and ignores his son. In contrast, Caillou’s dad interacts with him.

At home, Caillou’s dad limits screen time and, when Caillou has time with a tablet, his dad plays a game WITH him, not letting the screen become a babysitter. After a specific amount of screen time, Dad reads a book with Cailllou.

Parents may read this book with their toddler to teach them limits and to remind them that there are other activities to enjoy. It also looks to parents to engage with their kids.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Caillou always has good influence on the younger children. Overall I enjoyed the book. However the title "Caillou learns about screen time" is very misleading and confusing. First of all who is Henry and why is he in the start the story? What does Caillous dad being on the phone have to do with anything? Then it gets into the screen-time part of the story- I was expecting at least a short explanation so younger children could understand what screen-time is and why it is important to have boundaries with the screen-time. But no that was not the case. Overall the book is a well written cute book that is all over the place.

A good book to read with kids about the use of smart phones and tablets. I like how Caillou's dad allowed him to play on the tablet for a short time but also engaged with him after. Since screen time is inevitable as most everyone has either a cell phone, laptop or tablet, it's also important to stay active and do other things not associated with these devices. This is a good children's book with colorful illustrations that kept my daughter's attention.

Thank you Netgalley and Chouette Publishing - Caillou for the opportunity to read this book.

Caillou Learns About Screen Time by Christine Lheureux. I enjoyed the story. The illustrations were wonderful. I read on my tablet a lot because I can make the print large. I love to read print books to my granddaughter. I love to read the board books to her and she brings the board books to us. She has a little board book library. I think she will like this one as she gets a little older. She loves books.

Caillou is French storybooks for toddler, and this time, they introduced what kids loves best: tablets. Nowadays children are as inseparable to the tablet just like adults. Whereas adults use them to work, kids use them to play. And unknowingly, they will get addicted to the screen if not stopped. This book taught us to give time to younger kids to use tablets, and supervise them.

Good for modeling appropriate screentime boundaries but the plot/story was lacking as it ended abruptly
