Rabbits are a wonderful animal to raise as a pet or as part of the livestock on a farm. They are a great starter animal for children who participate in 4-H or other rabbit shows. This book will detail information on raising animals in both urban and rural situations, breed types, housing and food requirements, and general health care for the rabbit. The book will help you determine what rabbit breed will best suit your needs and inform you of what you need to know to keep your rabbit happy and healthy. Advice on showing your rabbit will also be included.

This book is very older-kid (middle/high school)-friendly, and discusses having rabbits for a variety of purposes. We have temporarily adopted a bunny as a pet (for the summertime). If this is your family's focus, the chapters on bunnies for breeding or as a food source might be *too*real* for some.
This book is definitely centered on starting your own breeding program or raising bunnies for shows/awards, though there are helpful bits about bunnies as family pets as well. While this book had a lot of information that I personally was not seeking at this time, I did find it informative and clearly written for those purposes.
This is an excellent book for people who want to start breeding their rabbits for show or sale. You will find excellent information about the various breeds to choose from. If you want information on raising A.R.B.A. approved rabbits, this book is a great place to start! I recommend all rabbit owners have this in their library.
Exactly what I was looking for in an Everything You Need To Know book. It is broad based and covers the basics. I am looking to raise rabbits on a homestead for meat, fur, and compost. Although this book is more focused on pet and show, it covered the raising, feeding, and caring part really well. Enough for me to research more thoroughly.
As someone who lives in an extremely urban setting, but has dreams of homesteading on a few acres in the country, I entered the goodreads giveaway for this book and was delighted to win it so I could learn more about raising rabbits. I was mostly thinking in terms of raising them as quasi-pets, but also for food and perhaps to sell the meat or the fur. Overall, I thought this book was incredibly informative about pretty much any topic I could think of (as the subtitle says, it is "everything you need to know"). I agree with a previous review that it could have had more hard economics in the section on raising rabbits for meat, fur, or fancy, but since this is such a broad base book - more of a general topic manual - it touched on enough key points that if I decided to pursue that avenue of business, I would look for a more in depth book on just that topic.
Overall, if you're looking for a general book on rabbits and all of the different types of things you can do with rabbits (who knew there were Rabbit Shows! I need to find one in my area!), this is a solid selection. It will give you a broad base of knowledge about a lot of different rabbit related topics. And, with a FFA endorsement, you know you'll be getting a good resource. OOh, and the photos are great!!
i want a rabbit, what i did not realize is that there were so many different kinds of breeds and sizes and colors. i did not know that people can have rabbits for many different reasons, like breeding or pets or (the horror) eating. the was book was very informational. there were so many different things that i did not realize that went into the care of have a rabbit or rabbits this book would be a must for people who were serious about rabbits
This book was very informative. However, I would have liked it better if there had been a brief mention (if that's possible) of the cultivation of raising rabbits, more explanations of why people do it, how profitable it is (in hard economics--statistics would've been nice), and a section on rabbit behavior in general. This was definitely geared for 4H enthusiasts.
So my goddaughter has told me on multiple occasions that she would love a rabbit. And so to help her cause I decided to ask for this book. So that we can read it together. Find out all the information that we need to be able to raise rabbits successfully. To help her pitch to her mum and dad about getting a rabbit. I mean if godparents aren’t there to help you reach your goals in life. I’m not sure what their purpose is.
