Super-Awesome Comic! Too Cool for School Rock Out!
Premise/plot: Pizza and Taco are two friends who spend the entire book trying to scare each other. Trying to 'properly' scare one another. Taco scares a bit easier than Pizza. The running gag is one likes dressing up as a "ghost pepper" and scaring the other. After the initial scare, they dare each other to scare each other.
My thoughts: I really enjoy this series for the most part. I like Pizza and Taco as characters. The first three or four titles in the series were absolutely great. I haven't been as big a fan of the later titles. But I still like the characters. Still interested in keeping up with these two friends.
This one would be good for those looking for Halloween titles but not too Halloween. Definitely more silly than scary.
Pizza and Taco #6! What a great beginner graphic novel series about friendship. First, I loved the little food cemetery at the beginning with the different epitaphs on the gravestones. And I really liked the fun scary movie references - all with a foodie spin. The story begins with pizza scaring taco with a ghost pepper costume. Of course, Taco tries to scare Pizza but not very successfully. So they do a scare dare. They both try to be very brave and pretend not to be scared. Everything evens out in the end when Taco finally managed to scare Pizza.
This is a fun story to read at Halloween when there's lots of scary things around. And a great way to talk about how it is OK to be scared.
Although I liked this Pizza and Taco title well enough, it didn't hold the appeal for me of the earlier books. Still, this one has kid appeal, especially given its subject matter--fear and being scared. This, the sixth title in the series, includes five chapters on the topic, including ways the characters can scare each other, scary challenges, and scary movies. And as often happens during childhood, the two friends even venture to a nearby cemetery in search of a special kind of ghost. Ah, the innocence of being young when it's fun to scare oneself or a friend! As usual, the artwork captures exactly what a pizza slice and a taco might look like if they were animated.
This is the sixth graphic novel for young readers in the series of the adventures of friends Pizza and Taco created by Stephen. In this five-chapter book, Pizza and Taco decide to a dare to be scared challenge. They move from dark basements to scary movies to hunting in graveyards. They agree to end the challenge in a standoff. This easily accessible graphic novel for young readers is filled with many interesting plays on words. Fans of Pizza and Taco will like this new edition. As a standalone book, it could easily get readers hooked on this series.
Pizza challenges Taco to a Dare to Be Scared Challenge to see who gets the most scared. They try the dark, scary movies, scary tv . . . but neither will admit when they are afraid, even when headed to the cemetery to hunt for Ghost Peppers!
The movie Parody titles were fantastic. I love these characters, they are so much fun. Dare to be Scared is a great read for Halloween. I'm so glad to see so many titles in this series, and I want to read them all.
Ok, I like this book because at first Taco was scared by Pizza's ghost pepper costume. Next, they had a challenge to not be scared of anything. Last they tried to go ghost pepper hunting and they got scared. I think if you like any other books in this series, get this one too. If you're a person who likes books about tacos and pizza I think you would like this book too. The end.
This was a cute juvenile graphic novel. I love when they make characters out of food so I picked up this book at the library. It's the first one I've read but won't be the last. A nice afternoon short read.
A cute installment of the series. It harnesses kids' desire to be scared (but not really scared...) so that part was cute. I really dislike the use of "YASS" throughout the book though.
I thought it was super cute how these best friends of a taco and a slice of pizza are trying to make each other do things that scare them like stand in the dark but they can do it in a good way!
They celebrate with a big jump, fist pump, and a butt bump!
Pizza and Taco are hilarious! Of course they aren’t scared of the dark…or ghost peppers! I would give this to any elementary grade reader but especially those who are reluctant. The humor, friendship duo, illustrations, and short dialogue are perfect.
Pizza seems like a really obnoxious friend to me. Anyway, he wears a ghost pepper mask and scares Taco, and then the two of them spend the rest of the book trying to do scary stuff. "My mom said no." 🤣
Pizza and Taco set out to prove they're the bravest talking food around, even if it means confronting the terrifying Ghost Pepper! This is a fun graphic novel for early readers.
A good enough graphic novel for younger children. Not very engaging as a story but there are still plenty of cute / funny moments. My 8-year old liked it but my eleven-year old didn’t, if that helps.
Pizza And Taco are so cute. I like Taco best. This book would be great to read during Halloween. I was late reading it. My favorite book in the series so far.
