I am an avid enjoyer of the endless space universe and this book was a must read. There is so much depth and information relayed in this book, moreso than in any in other other form of ES media and for that alone it is very much worth the read. Some highlights included more information about the Academy and Isayander's goals as well as the machinations of the United Empire and Pilgrims. That being said I do feel like Gaskell's writing fell a bit flat at times. Many of the themes and plot point felt a bit cliche and while that is bound to happen in sci-fi when combined with jerky descriptions and characters whose motivations seemed inconsistent at times, it left some things to be desired. Overall I am extremely happy that Amplitude and Gaskell wrote this book and I am looking forwards to the ideally many novels that come after.
