I have a few years of experience with crocheting and knitting so this book wasn't too difficult to follow. There were lots of diagrams and instructions as well as online reference material for any range of experience to learn. Alexis Sixel's designs stand out amongst those in the crochet community for having a distinct, gothic/victorian, spooky type of style. I have made her projects before, such as the bat mosaic design. I'm very happy to have been able to get this from my local library and will definitely be making a few of the projects shown in the book. My favorites are the scarab planter holders and the on fire table runner.
Thanks for a thorough tutorial on mosaic crochet! 🤓
The stitched stars on the cover caught my eye first. Once inside the wall hanging resembling stained glass is beautiful! It will be perfect to display on the wall behind you during Zoom or Face Time calls! Also appreciated the many photos and step by step instructions explaining each pattern! What a great idea and timesaver! Lots of thoughtful hard work went into these patterns and putting this great book together and, as said, I appreciated it all! Highly recommended, especially to understand the mosaic process, with patterns to help you learn along the way. Thanks again!
These designs all look pretty neat, but I'm not sure how practical most of them would be-- the technique doubles stitches to create the designs, so the resulting piece would be heavy. Several of the patterns seem not to match the weight.
The instructions seemed understandable. Crocheters should come to this book already able to do most basic things beyond rectangles (increasing, decreasing, etc.), but don't need to be super-proficient.
Likely a very optional purchase for crafters, but an interesting addition to library collections where crafting books with alternative edges are popular.
I'm going to wait to rate this after I try at least one of the patterns. I checked this out from the library but I haven't had the chance to make anything yet. There's quite a few projects here that I'd like to attempt.
I follow Alexis on Instagram and have found her take on crochet interesting. I love people that are this creative and bring something new to the table.
My POV will be a beginner that never starts with the usual easy projects. I pick something I want to make, and fail a lot. 😆
Always admire someone who makes up and clearly explains a new thing. A couple of the designs would make gorgeous throw-pillows, and the fabric looks like it would actually be rugged enough to handle the life of a couch pillow seeing nearly constant use. Sadly, most of the designs are not listed on Ravelry, making it harder to add them to the queue, and with no way to learn from others' projects.
No rating. The designs are pretty but I forgot that this is the technique I despise because of the right side only aspect. Five trillion ends to weave in (tassels are not god's answer to every project) and it makes extremely heavy and bulky fabric.
I've been following Sixel for a while and I'm jumping in. I wish some of her other patterns were in here too but some of these are definitely perfect!!
I checked this out on Libby and read it on the kindle app on my phone. The images are beautiful. I want to make every single pattern in this book. It includes detailed instructions for all of the techniques used. I have eyed the author’s patterns online for ages and have felt a little intimidated by them, but after reading this book I feel confident enough to step into the world of mosaic crochet. This is one to add to your personal library.
