Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (Russian: Лев Николаевич Толстой; most appropriately used Liev Tolstoy; commonly Leo Tolstoy in Anglophone countries) was a Russian writer who primarily wrote novels and short stories. Later in life, he also wrote plays and essays. His two most famous works, the novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina, are acknowledged as two of the greatest novels of all time and a pinnacle of realist fiction. Many consider Tolstoy to have been one of the world's greatest novelists. Tolstoy is equally known for his complicated and paradoxical persona and for his extreme moralistic and ascetic views, which he adopted after a moral crisis and spiritual awakening in the 1870s, after which he also became noted as a moral thinker and social reformer.

His literal interpretation of the ethical teachings of Jesus, centering on the Sermon on the Mount, caused him in later life to become a fervent Christian anarchist and anarcho-pacifist. His ideas on nonviolent resistance, expressed in such works as The Kingdom of God Is Within You, were to have a profound impact on such pivotal twentieth-century figures as Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Çevirmenin veya editörün tabiri ile Rusya'nın "soylu, kararlı ve romantik devrimcileri" olan dekabristler hakkında türkçeye çevrilmiş pek fazla kaynak bulunmuyor maalesef. Bu yüzden bu kitabı görür görmez aldım.

Tolstoy'un hayranlık duyduğu dekabristleri anlatmak için yazmaya başladığı ancak bir türlü bitiremediği eserinin taslak metinleri, 3 bölümü ve dekabristler hakkında bilgi veren bir ekten oluşuyor kitap.

Döneme ve Dekabristlere ilgi duyduğum için beni sondaki yaklaşık 10 sayfalık ek oldukça tatmin etti. Merak edenler için Dekabristler hakkında kısaca bir kaç şey söylemek gerekirse; Dekabristler yani aralıkçılar 1825 yılında Çar'a karşı ayaklanma girişiminde bulunmuş ancak 14 aralık 1825'te söz konusu girişim kanlı bir şekilde bastırılmış. Dekabristler dönemin soylu kişilerinden oluşan ve halkçı bir anlayışı benimseyen bir yapılanma olup en bilinen destekçilerinden biri de Puşkin'dir. (Evet, Puşkin'i belki ilginizi çeker diye ekledim :)

Tolstoy'un bitmemiş romanından derlenen kısımlarda Dekabrist ayaklanmasının bastırılmasının ardından sürgüne gönderilenlerin bir kısmının 1856 yılında affedilmesi ile birlikte Moskova'ya dönen bir dekabrist (Pyotr Ivanıç) ve ailesinin hikayesi anlatılıyor.

Kitapta dönemin sosyetesinin fransız özentisi ( dekabristler buna karşıydı) Tolstoy tarafından çok eğlenceli bir şekilde eleştirilmekte. Tahminimce kitap bitseydi Pyotr Ivaniç benim için en az Çatski ve Vera Pavlovna kadar değerli bir karakter olurdu.

Dekabristlerin bu kitap sayesinde daha çok ilgi cezbederek farklı bilgi kaynaklarının çevrilmesine önayak olmasını umut ediyorum. Yıllarca Dekabristler hakkında doğru düzgün hiç bir bilgi bulamadıktan sonra (Rusçam A1 bile olmadığından) bu kitap benim için altın değerinde oldu. Bunu çevirmek ve basmak her kimlerin aklına geldiyse umarım onların da benim gibi çok istedikleri bir dilekleri gerçek olur.

Son zamanlarda neden Türkçe'ye çevrilmiyor diye kendimce isyan ettiğim yazarların eserlerine rastlamaya başladım kitapçılarda. Çoğunun da altında Hazal Yalın'ın adını görüyorum çevirmen olarak. Umarım yayınevleri ve çevirmenler bu güzel sürprizlerine devam ederler.:)

Un relato inacabado de Tolstói. Me quedé con las ganas de saber más de la historia. Lástima que no pudo continuarlo. El título da para mucho.

Only a few chapters, and it's easy to see it would have been a pleasure to read, a sequel to War and Peace of sorts. Tolstoy gets as far as setting the stage, and we all know how wonderfully he does it, but he never finishes the novel. Such a pity we'll never get to read it.

C'était immersif, beau, prometteur... En seulement quelques chapitres on retrouve tout Tolstoi
Cependant, j'ai un énorme soucis maintenant, j'ai envie de lire le roman tout en sachant que l'on ne l'aura jamais. Quand je pense à Guerre et Paix et que j'imagine tout ce qu'aurait pu être ce livre...

Tolstoy’s unfinished work that was meant to be a sequel to War and Peace. In the few chapters that he completed, you can see that this had potential. Thus, it’s disappointing that he decided not to finish it 😩

If you want to get into Tolstoy and are (understandably) intimidated by War and Peace, I would recommend this short read. It’s well written and less than 100 pages.

El comienzo de una novela de Tolstoi, el retorno a Moscú de un conspirador o terrorista, condenado a trabajos forzados en Siberia durante 25 años, da ganas de continuarlo como obra de teatro... ¿Alguien tiene huevos para una obra sobre el regreso e Santi Potros?
