The Crystal Skull: The story of the mystery, myth, and magic of the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull discovered in a lost Mayan city during a search for Atlantis
This book is about the discovery and origins of the crystal skull discovered by Frederick Mitchell-Hedges inside a Mayan temple with his small group, including his adopted daughter Anna. Garvin does his research into providing details about what the skull is meant for (I believe this is one of the oldest works available to read about it). Namely, I can say this book into three sections: its historical origins, whom the man Mitchell-Hedges was, and the debate about its authenticity among scientists and occultists.
My knowledge about crystal skulls are bare minimal, so I can say Garvin's book is much help in learning of the history of their discoveries. He includes a lot of primary research from interviews with Anna, newspaper articles, and other private documentations about the skull. Clearly the author does have interest, and tries to remain neutral on the subject of the skull forgery and relations to mysticism, but he definitely leans on the skeptical side of the skull's supposed magical abilities. Despite the short length, it comes off as flat on occasion, and because it was published in the 70s, there was still not a lot of info to provide much on the subject.
Overall all though, it was decent in its coverage of the mystery behind the skull and I am sure that there are more informative books about it nowadays.
Stumbled upon this book when wandering the library stacks. Since this book was written in the 1970s, this would be a good book to read in beginning your research about crystal skulls. I'm sure more research and findings have been established in the past three decades.
This book was written in 1973, its a start I decided to start here with my inquiries to compare this with more modern books with possibly more information.
