I write funny, tender romance novels for Harlequin Superromance and Love Inspired Historical.

My next book to be released is That New York Minute, out in April 2012.

I like to set aside some of my writing time for experimental projects - I'm currently trying my hand at a humorous women's fiction novel, and I also finished a Young Adult manuscript.

The Comeback by Abby Gaines
Harlequin NASCAR Library
NASCAR: Hidden Legacies Book 13
Zack Matheson is making his comeback to NASCAR racing but he’s slowed down by all the baggage he’s carrying around. He’s serious and a loner and proving to be a PR nightmare since he’s on his fifth representative. Only he’s having trouble scaring this one off and starting to think that maybe he don’t want to.

Gaby Colson wants the promotion that will allow her to take over for her boss Sandra Taney after her baby is born. The key to getting that job is to get the stubborn and unsociable Zack to agree to be more PR friendly. Gaby is finding that Zack can be mighty friendly in private but she needs him out there in the public.

Zack and Gaby accidentally stumble onto a clue about Alan Cargill’s murder while having one of those private moments. It looks like things may heat up on the murder case when journalist Mattie Clayton, daughter to Steve Clayton from A Taste of Speed, and the New York detective on the case Lucas Haines get together in book fourteen, Into The Corner.

Zack is the middle son from a racing family. He has difficulty relating to his father and brothers which may be causing him some trouble on the race course. Zack is wound tight. Enter Gaby, a young PR professional hired to help with Zack's image. During the course of their romance, there are sometimes conflicting interests with Gaby's ambitions and Zack's needing to be clear to race. Zack's dad's new wife's daughter also makes an appearance and has a side romance with another racer. This side story was a little distracting.
There is a lot of racing and NASCAR details in this book. I have no idea if these details are authentic, but I do think these books are sort of genius. I know women who are fans of NASCAR and would probably like all of the inside information, which is probably where the strength of this romance lies. The Comeback rates low on the spice scale, with only some kissing and sweet promises of forever!

I really, really enjoyed Zack and Gaby's story. I only wish it hadn't been hijacked by Amber and Ryan halfway through the book. Just at the moments when I most wanted to be swept deeper into Zack and Gaby's struggles with family and bosses and their own insecurities, I found myself wading through yet another scene where Amber took center stage. Kinda ruined the momentum, and more than once I wondered whether or not I could just skip all of Amber's prickly angst and get to the characters whose story I wanted to be reading.
