He was taken from Adrienna on their wedding night, and sold as a slave. Now, released from captivity, Hugh of Ryebourne wants revenge. Believing Adrienna played a part in his capture, he plans to seduce his wife into bed-but he won't use force. He wants her to come willingly....
Adrienna is shocked by the reappearance of her estranged husband. She can't deny the desire this dark, brooding man arouses in her, but Hugh is no longer the young boy she once knew. He is all man now, rugged and very dangerous.
Denise Lynn lives in NW Ohio with her husband, son and slew of 4-legged "kids". She has been an avid reader of romance novels for many years, travelling to lands and times filled with brave knights, courageous ladies and never-ending love between the pages of those wonderful books.
She writes medieval romances set in England, Ireland, Normandy, France and a few fictitious islands in the waters surrounding Great Britain. When not writing historical romances, she can be found hiking, baking, sitting in front of a sewing machine, or snipping herbs for various edible and not-so-edible recipes.
If you ignore the whole premise of this book, it wasn't bad. However, logically it was very flawed. The backstory is that Adrienna and Hugh were married as children. Hugh was kidnapped on their wedding night and sold into slavery; apparently in the Middle East. He was supposed to have been killed. We have a confusing background about this and not much information.
For some bizarre reason Hugh believes Adrienna has something to do with his kidnapping even though she was a child. That defies logic. His revenge is to make her give herself to him body and soul and then dump her. He falls in love with her instead.
Meanwhile his slave master comes back to torment Hugh and this ending is very unsatisfactory, as far as I'm concerned.
For someone who keeps saying he, Hugh, learned all these unique ways of sex, the sex scenes are very basic.
There's more going on with the Queen, etc but basically that's our story.
Um just say no! I love a good bodice ripper perhaps more then the next girl but this was just unfortunate. The back story was vauge and disjointed and the characters were dull. I think what makes a histarical romance stand out for me, or any romance for that matter is the dialoge that goes on between the hero and heroine, infortunatly this books banter had no sizzle. I think that romance novels are a very under rated genre and done right they can be incredible but the key is to have characters that are at least in some way believeable and real. Unfortunatly these two just made me want to nod off.
This is a historical romance about a man taken on his wedding night. He thinks that his wife had something to do with and seeks revenge. But she is innocent and they soon have to join together against their enemies.
I was more than a little distracted while reading this book. It took an entire week. But it was a cute book and I loved the dirty parts. They were well written.
