Denise Lynn lives in NW Ohio with her husband, son and slew of 4-legged "kids". She has been an avid reader of romance novels for many years, travelling to lands and times filled with brave knights, courageous ladies and never-ending love between the pages of those wonderful books.

She writes medieval romances set in England, Ireland, Normandy, France and a few fictitious islands in the waters surrounding Great Britain. When not writing historical romances, she can be found hiking, baking, sitting in front of a sewing machine, or snipping herbs for various edible and not-so-edible recipes.

It's 1142 in Northern England and Gareth Faucon has been charged by King Stephen with returning Rhian of Gervaise to her mother's family for an arranged marriage. Rhian is violently opposed since she has never known her mother or anyone in her family, having lived with her father in England her whole life. King Stephen has taken over her father's estate and given it to someone else. Rhian has no say and makes many attempts to escape. One of these escapes ends with her working in the kitchens at Browan Keep an estate without a Lord, waiting for the King's designated new owner to arrive. In the meantime it is in bad shape and filled with unruly knights. Gareth has been given the Keep but first he is pledged to deliver Rhian to her new home. He stops at Browan to view it while he searches for the runaway. He not only finds Rhian but discovers that others are out to keep Rhian from returning home and steal a pendant given to her by her mother. The pendant may have mystical powers and Rhian's mother's family is rumored to be descendants or practicing Druids. There are lots of factions involved in political intrigue. Despite the love growing between the main characters there is a vow that must be fulfilled. This is an interesting historical romance, but not as good as the first volume. The Druid sub-plot was a little far fetched, although the interaction between Rhian and Gareth was good.

Segundo volume da série Falcon.

A primeira parte é bem apressada, com os acontecimentos se interpolando. Mas, francamente, eu perdi o ritmo quando a autora colocou um fenômeno sobrenatural no fim da trama.

Foi um balde d'água fria.

Para começar, foi bom voltar a ler um romance com uma pegada mais histórica. Eu já não leia livros assim a algum tempo, e pelo menos para mim, essa questão histórica tem um apelo bem grande. Principalmente se envolve alguma questão de realeza ou bebês (sim, eu sou ridícula). Mas o que eu realmente esperava desse livro era um romance legal, beirando algo bobo, que contrabalanceasse a intensidade e excentricidade de Bem Profundo.

E para falar a verdade... esse livro é esquecível.

Essa autora é super renomada, e tem vários livros publicados pela Halerquin desde a década de 90, que para quem lê livros de banca é um sinal de alta qualidade, já que os melhores livros do gênero ainda são os mais antigos. Antes da literatura se tornar algo quase como fast-producing. Ela tem no seu site pessoal dezenas de livros publicados, e é uma autora bem presente no Goodreads, então achei que seria uma escolha segura.

E, entendam, eu ainda vou terminar de ler o resto da coleção, que aliás, não tem uma ordem lá muito radical se você quiser lê-la (visto que eu comecei pelo segundo, por exemplo).

O romance estava muito, muito bom, apesar de um tantinho apressado (algumas vezes eu achava que ela corria demais com o desenvolvimento dos sentimentos dos personagens, mas pelo menos tinha algum nível de credibilidade ali devido a outros fatores da história). O problema para mim foi lá no desfecho, onde ela meteu um paranormal misturado com fantasia que não me convenceu muito. Se a autora tivesse ficado apenas no romance histórico, o livro teria muito mais impacto em mim. Fora que, sei lá, pra uma garota que vivia por volta do ano 1200, a protagonista é um tanto quanto atirada, o que não produziu uma suspensão da realidade enquanto eu lia como eu gostaria que ocorresse.

Fora isso, bom passatempo. Porém, como eu disse anteriormente, nem vou lembrar deste livro em dois anos.

This is a historical romance with the story of Gereth and Rhian. He is a knight and protects Rhian since someone wants her dead. It was pretty good and a quick read.

Read this in one sitting. I have to say, this author seems to favour infuriatingly indecisive female characters.
