Sheriff King might not be perfect, but he’s no murderer. But when his ex-wife Emily dies in a mysterious car accident, the townspeople are talking.
Now there’s a recall election and Emily’s family wants to see Sheriff King behind bars, especially when more strange accidents happen.
We’ve had our differences, but I know the sheriff isn’t the murderer. I just hope I can prove it before his reputation is in tatters and more people die.
"Murder Colada" is book #5 in the "Maple Creek Mysteries" series by Liz Lamar.
Sheriff Nick King's ex-wife dies in a mysterious accident. Her family thinks Nick is responsible and want him recalled from his job. The victim had been a bully and Kelly had been one of her victims in high school but she is convinced that Nick didn't do it and sets out to prove it. She runs into several roadblocks gathering info but also gets some assistance from unexpected sources.
There were some interesting twists in this story and a couple of scary moments for Kelly. Given how few people actually liked the victim the suspect list could have been very long but only a few really had motive. The ultimate reveal was well done!
As well as the murder, Kelly's good friend from art school in New York City, Amy, comes for a visit. The two reconnect over an art project for a Halloween haunted house and trips into the mountains. Amy has some things to sort out in her life but also may have found some unexpected answers during her visit. (I hope we see more of her!)
The core characters of this series are a wonderfully diverse mix. Who wouldn't want to stay at the Inn that Lynn owns and spend time at the Feisty Goat?
Amy is coming to visit her friend from art5 school, and Sheriff Nick is accused of murdering his ex-wife. The rich are trying to bulldoze their way, and tar and feather Nick. Great mystery with a little romance thrown in
Easy to follow plot and characters. The author makes the characters interesting and believe able. I look forward to more adventures with these characters.
