A missing child. A web of lies. A lone prosecutor must unravel the truth before it’s too late.
The stakes have never been higher when the defendant in Mara’s latest murder trial decides he wants to cut a deal. His freedom in exchange for information on the whereabouts of a high-profile kidnapping victim. Mara must match wits with one of the most dangerous criminals she’s ever faced. This time, one misstep could cost an innocent child’s life.
Robin James is an attorney and former law professor. She's worked on a wide range of civil, criminal and family law cases in her twenty-year legal career. She also spent over a decade as supervising attorney for a Michigan legal clinic assisting thousands of people who could not otherwise afford access to justice.
Robin now lives on a lake in southern Michigan with her husband, two children, and one lazy dog. Her favorite, pure Michigan writing spot is stretched out on the back of a pontoon watching the faster boats go by.
Let first say how I read this book in record time, due the fact how good it is
The writing style made this book incredibly easy to eat up and read quickly- not to mention the twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. All the books in this series are page turners and I Love it. The simple but gut-wrenching plot twists are a thing of beauty! With each new release in this series I feel like there is no way in heck that MS James can top the Previous book. And each time the author proves me wrong.
Skip Fletcher is Mara’s new boss, and the stakes have never been higher, due to the fact that Skip is pushing for Mara to get a conviction on her latest case. ….. A case that never should have gone to trial.
So basically, Skip’s telling Mara that if, she doesn’t get that conviction she is going to lose her job …….. it looks like Fletcher is trying to clean house…… And it looks like Mara is the first one on the chopping block.
Somehow, a simple case turns into where Mara is working on a cold case from over 12 years ago way before Mara moved into Maumee County,
As the story goes on, we see that Skip doesn’t appear to care who he steps on to get what he wants
I just love, love, love. Will’s character … oh and Kenya, there are just no words for her I always love the back stories in Ms James’s books
4.0 stars. Really good story. This one didn't have the shocker ending as with the past several books, but a good thriller all the same. It did some give some reassurances with a few characters that I've been wanting for a while. And now there's the wait. The next book in both series: this one, as well as the Cass Leary series, aren't due out until later this year. Can't wait!
Robin James strikes again! Her books are so realistic and engrossing. The characters are familiar and well-defined. I can never wait to open the front cover of her new book, but now I'll have to wait for the next one!
Web of Justice is the seventh book in the Mara Brent series and is intricately and well put together….but I expected nothing less from this author as she is just phenomenal in her storytelling❣️
When a murder case that Mara is prosecuting suddenly takes a turn….she starts pulling on the strings of deceit and lies which uncovers a cold case from years before she moved to Maumee County, but she’s determined she’s going to find out what happened and pursue the truth, no matter the cost.
I love these characters and I’m loving this series too…super excited for what case Mara is going to delve into next. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
I began this book this morning as a storm ragged in my community. The horror of what young woman and children are going thru in this world sickens me. Being stollen and brutilized in a world where children should be protected and loved brings up a desire to punish these evil people to the fullest extent of the law. I cannot fathom the loss of one of my children and the fury I would feel. People stand up and protect children.
Book 7 in this series and what a series of is ! Each and every book is, in my opinion, excellent, riveting, and a joy to read. Robin James you are a 🌟 STAR 🌟. Now I have to wait, not so patiently for Book 8.
Loved this book. This is a great thriller. I could not put this book down. It keeps you in suspense until the very end. Can't wait for the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book and series.
Wow, what a riveting read! This was a fantastic story and a wonderful addition to the series! Robin James does not disappoint. I am eagerly awaiting the next adventure!
WOW what a story. So well worth reading. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Robin James, just keep writing these superb books please, just love both the Mara Brent books, excellent read.
Robin James continues to give us enjoyable, thrilling legal thrillers and the latest in the Mara Brent series is pretty much what I've come to expect. Slick plot, twists & turns you never see coming, convincing (mostly) characters & enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Mara Brent's job is on the line when her latest trial takes an unexpected turn and she falls foul of her new boss, Skip Fletcher who wants her gone. Caught up with a cold case that no-one wants her to touch, Mara risks her career to follow her gut and pursue the case.
Much as I enjoyed the book, I found the character of Skip Fletcher disappointing. He is little more than a cariacature who is only seen ranting at Mara, so it's hard to see why he would have been elected as County Prosecutor. He is little more than an obvious device to move the story on, which is a pity. It would have been good to see more of him.
Mara's relationship with Sheriff Sam Cruz is also a bit frustrating. They seem to spend such little time together that I often wonder why he's maintained as a love interest rather than just a colleague. In spite of that, it's enjoyable enough to forgive such flaws.
I have been missing Robin James. I’ve read all the Cass Leary and Mara Brent series and curling up with this book was like going home. It’s tough when you binge read her series then you have to wait for her to be able to write another. This book was a little different than the others, but I loved it. I just love her style. In the down times(waiting for her next novel) I have read her husband’s books, different from hers but I enjoy them as well. Looking forward to the next Robin James book. Definitely encourage you to read her series.
When I finished reading Robin James’ “Web of Justice,” I officially caught up reading her Mara Brent Series. I had mentioned that I didn’t think her last book was at quite the same level as the others, but this one returned to form. While this book contained the usual courtroom drama, Mara also found herself doing investigative work on a cold case of a missing child. Add in a job-threatening clash with her new boss, concerns about her autistic son’s seeming regression, and tensions with her close companion, Sam Cruz, make for stimulating reading. (362 pages)
While quite predictable in many areas, there were enough twists and turns to keep a reader interested. Most importantly, it raises more awareness on human trafficking and, particularly, young girls being abducted into horrific situations. Character development was also a plus and one had a good idea of their supportive or complicit involvement. An enjoyable and quick read if one enjoys the subject of these stories.
I devoured this. It was SO GOOD. I absolutely love Sam and Mara together. They really do make an impeccable team. I never want to read skip fletchers name again lol. But there were so many twists and turns in this that I absolutely loved. I’m so glad this is the book that I completed my 2023 book goal on! I really can’t wait to see what’s next in the Mara Brent series! 🩷
Awesome story! Series just gets better and better!
A real page turner! Robin James knows how to spin a yarn. This latest one was better than the previous ones. I highly recommend this whole series and get Cass Leary series. I have read them all and I am waiting for the next one already.
I have read the entire Mara Brent series over the past month, and am so sad that I have to wait for the next! The characters are so complex and interesting that they become wonderful companions. The plots are engaging and the courtroom action accurate. Absolutely canNOT wait for #8!!
Mara Brent is a force to be reckoned with. She's a Momma Bear in the courtroom and out. She's very passionate about her son. Will, her ex-husband, her mom, and her new blossoming relationship. Her courtroom prowess leaves no holds barred. O can't believe I have to wait for book 8. I'm anxious to see what's next for Mara Brent and her crew.
I started this series after reading the Cass Leary series by the same author. Whereas Cass was a defender, Mara is a prosecutor and the flip side of the coin was a great way to differentiate between the two series. I loved Mara as a character and she was so strong, both professionally and personally, and boy did she need it. Another great series. I'm hoping this one is as long as Cass's.
Tangled web of long term bad people embedded as public servants
Each volume includes unexpected evil existing in plain view. Mara Brent experiences intense commitment in search of truth. Good that Mara attracts loyal colleagues and friends. Sex trafficking creates individual, family, and community tragedies.
Early on I didn't what to expect, lots of wonderful twists and turns and Intrigue galore. This is probably the best in the series, thusfar! It had this old man in tears at the end and enjoying every last word! Thanks for a Great read!
I really enjoyed this story, although the subject matter of human trafficking bothers me. The main characters are interesting , especially Will. I do wonder if there are really so many bad bosses like Skip in the work force. So many of the books that I read involve main characters with bad bosses.
I'm a diehard Mara Brent fan, and as a parent and now grandparent of autistic children, Will is my favorite character. This storyline is great, and I am rating it a 5 because the whole series has been so enjoyable.
So, I have to say that this one was very good. I do believe it speaks to the criminality in today’s world and how it runs across all jurisdictions and cabal departments set up in govt. As for the reason I say this…well, read this book and you will know.
If you like surprises, twists and turns, strong women, and a neverending curvy path of mystery, then you will not only enjoy this book, but the whole series. I've become an avid Robin James fan.
Once again ....A great read and once again I could not put it down! I love all the twist and turns of all the characters. I am always surprised by the endings...and...the blooming romance !ends a gentle touch to the story
After a long work day, it is both relaxing and exciting to read about Mara and Will. Robin James always produces a spellbinding web of intrigue. Can’t wait for Book 8.
