Sophie has come back home to try and come to grips with her new She’s a Fae, not human, and her memories have been stolen. Oh, and she’s a shard – a fractured piece of... someone.
All Sophie knows is that the ‘someone’ she used to be angered the Fae queen, who then split her into five separate beings and scattered them on earth. But why? And why take their memories?
The Odd Ones, now including Ruby – who Sophie thought was a long-long twin sister but is actually also one of the shards – are on a quest to find all the missing shards. The question How will they find the other three?
And if that wasn’t enough, a new important death vision leads Sophie, Mac, and Ruby on a new mission to Las Vegas. Posing as high rollers, the crew must track the killers and shut down the illegal shifter fight club where the murder took place. At least that will take Sophie’s mind off how truly bizarre her life has become.
While on the case, new visions and new friends give Sophie some hope that she can figure herself out. But the Odd Ones will need to hurry – they aren't the only ones trying to find the lost shards.
Gwen DeMarco is an avid reader, wine & coffee drinker, gardener and a lover of all things nerdy. Gwen loves to write paranormal romance novels with a focus on the weird and wonderful. She loves to write a good snarky heroine and a grumpy male lead. Sophie and the Odd Ones is her first foray into the world of shifters, fae, ogres and vampires.
Gwen is happily married to her high school sweetheart and has two teenage children. She can often be found with her nose in a book and a glass of wine or mug of coffee in her hand.
I continue to love the series. Love the heroine and her crew. Such great found family. Her love interest and she continue to be #couplegoals but there wasn't a lot of time with them in this installment. It was fine tho cause the story kept moving and I was enthralled for all of it!
This is fun and I cannot wait for Book 5... the last book.
WARNING! Cliffhanger! Ok this is a fairly small one on my trauma scale (about a 3/5) and is of the ‘life changing’ rather than ‘life threatening’ type. Fortunately the next book is also already out, so no need to wait!
Sophie and her Odd Ones (which now includes Ruby, her not-exactly-twin-sister) find themselves dealing with some very intriguing circumstances. Best of all there’s a lead on the whereabouts of the other Shards too…
It’s amazing how much happens in this book, a lot of it confirming my suspicions, a few more surprising, and none of it can be spoken of without spoiling everything! There are some significant revelations, and a set-up that definitely promises an explosive showdown.
This is not a standalone by any stretch of the imagination, being the fourth book in the series it builds on the three that came before. It’s fast paced though, with a lot of action, and some enjoyable banter. This is a great series for urban fantasy fans, and it’s amping up!
This book is two stories, one after the other. The first is a problem that is handled in the manner we're used to. I think it is only there because of some long-term effects from meeting someone along the way. The long time spent on the initial problem had me wondering when they'd look for the next shard.
After that problem was handled (very professionally and neatly), the gang went off shard hunting. It felt like a different book. I liked both books, but the second was not so neat, more a mishmash of familiar stuff. It was not as much fun as I've come to expect. I'm wondering whether the next book will be very dark. However it goes, I'm going to hang with Sophie.
BTW, don't read the Epilogue if you don't want a cliff hanger. I did and I need the next book NOW. Oh well, patience is supposed to be a virtue.
Sophie’s life has been upended. She has just found out that not only is she not human, she is only a piece of her former self. And Ruby isn’t her sister, but another “shard” of what she used to be. And they know there are more of these shards out there. Temporarily distracted by a shifter fighting ring case, the group goes to Vegas to help a Conclave member find out what happened to his son. While in Vegas, Sophie meets a new ally who gives them the means to find the other shards. Can they find them before Bramwell? This book had a bit less action than the previous books, but it went into so more about the search for the “sisters”. It definitely had me listening intently waiting to see if they could find the sisters in time! There were so many surprises about the sisters it was crazy! I don’t want to give anything away so it’s so hard to write the review! Sophie has finally adjusted to having Ruby around and part of the Odd Ones. And now she may be adding more sisters to the mix. Mac is there to help of course and now they have Larry as part of their immediate team as well. It was nice to see some of the characters from previous book feature again! Well, not all of the reunions were nice but necessary. And that was a whole other surprise! This book was so full of surprises I am having a hard time not giving anything away! Right up until the end of the book where a major revelation happens! I can’t wait to begin the next book and see how Sophie and the Odd Ones so against a Fae Queen and her minions!
Sophie has discovered that she’s not human, both she and Ruby are shards – Fae who have been banished to the human realm and split into multiple parts. From what they have learned, there are three more shards out there that they want to find. But life goes on. After a death reading on the son of a Conclave member, Sophie, Ruby and Mac are off to Vegas to solve the murder and track down illegal cage fighting. Going undercover as a high roller and his twin girlfriends, the trio check out the different paranormal factions. One of the groups, powerful seers, gift the trio with a magical feather that will help Larry’s spells. This book basically has two stories, the Vegas angle and the search for the second half of the book. There is some action, mystery, some big surprises, suspense and humour. Sophie is not a person who dresses up happily. And Ruby never fails to make me laugh. This was a great read and I can hardly wait to start the next book.
There's an effort to go to Las Vegas and stop a shifter fight ring and it's serious enough that Marcella and some of her 'soldiers' get involved. To help in this effort Mac plays the part of an ultra-rich player and Sophie and Ruby dress up as his arm candy.
Then there's dreams that Sophie and Ruby have about one of the shards and they head where she seems to be to find her. This one is Emmie and they have to convince her that she's not what she thinks she really is or has been.
Then one of the big bads is captured but things may not be as simple as they thought they would be.
Then the Great Mother (the woman with the feathers) gives Sophie a task that, on the face of it, is totally impossible.
There's a lot going on in this book. I like the way things are moving along and I still think Ruby is absolutely fascinating.
9/10 This series is fantastic! I can’t believe it’s not more popular because it’s easily the same caliber as Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson . This far in the twists are starting to build and it’s so satisfying. The pacing was still slightly unusual (the first half is the “small” plot and the second half is the overarching one without the two really interacting) but improved from the last book because there is no dead space between the two plots. There are also enough big revelations that even if you guess a few of them there are still plenty more to enjoy. I will eagerly be awaiting the next installment
Audiobook: I enjoyed book 4 as much as the previous three books in the "Sophie Feegle" series. Because of Sophie's reading on the body which was on the table at the morgue, Sophie, Ruby, and Mac were sent to Las Vegas to find the perpetrator. The story introduced some unique and unusual characters. I liked the twists of the mystery as the trio looked for the murderer. I'm mesmerized by the slow revelations from the mystery of who Sophie really is. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Janine Granda's narration was enjoyable, and her performance was engaging. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
I really like Sophie and her quirky band of misfit friends (Birdie is such a pistol!), however, I’m not really a fan of the whole unravelling shard plot. I know it’s the main driver of the story, however, when it was just the cases from the morgue being solved by Sophie, Mac, Reggie and Co. I had a blast reading about it.
I’ll still keep reading this series though as Sophie is an awesome character, and I love her relationship with Mac, and her friendship with dirty Birdie. I just wasn’t feeling it with this book.
Firstly, if you have not read the first three books in this series, you need to stop and immediately read this series, in order. Firstly the main characters are awesome, especially together. the relationships feel holistic, the books and the conversations are hilarious. It is sweet, but also a little nerve wracking. It honestly has everything I want to read in a story. Each book gets better and better. I knew this was going to be a good story, but Gwen really knocked it out of the park! The twist, oh the twist! You will never see coming! Read and enjoy one of my absolute favorite series!!!
Wow does this episode ever ramp up the stakes for Sophie, the Odd Ones, and even all humans! The action could easily have been split into two books: one is a crazy Las Vegas spy mission to find a shifter fight club and the other is a search for more sisters.
The book ends with a cliffhanger setting Sophie up to be the superhero she’s fated to be. Cannot wait to see how the next episode goes! You’ll love this urban fantasy if you’re a fan of Annette Marie books. Both authors are excellent at remembering to weave their characters flaws, hopes, foibles, and dreams into the action.
When I started this series I thought I was in for a gentle, quirky , found family supernatural tale, which is exactly what i got, but this series has turned into so much more. The world is rich, the characters are memorable and the supernatural element is well developed and interesting. Sophie has come a long way in a very short time and I love her growing confidence which is what makes the ending of this book so hard (just read it ok?) but I am so on board for more! Please, as soon as possible :-)! Loved every minute of this.
I really enjoyed this part of the series. Definitely not a standalone so start with Book 1. There were some very unexpected parts and some sad and scary parts. Any detailed outline of the plot would result in huge spoilers. So - travel to Las Vegas and team efforts to bring down the bad guys. Travel to Chapel Hill, NC to find a sister. Travel to FL to find a sister. Lots of movement, lots of surprises, and some thoughtful times for Sophie to come to grips with a few things. A bit of a cliff hanger but not horrendous. Pushing directly into Book 5.
Okay wow. What a book. I think this is my favorite in the series and I CANNOT WAIT for the final book. So many reveals and that cliff? Book 5 can’t come soon enough. The pacing was great. I feel like we almost got two books in one between the Las Vegas excursion and then rolling from that into the shards search. I also can’t WAIT to see the ripple effects of the final reveal. SO MANY QUESTIONS AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR BOOK 5!! :D
Awesome. As usual I really enjoy Sophie and the gang. We finally find out what Sophie and the shards are! I’m excited to hear more!
However at the moment I don’t really understand what’s going on with the queen. Sophie has done something to make the queen kick her out of the realm but has let one of the shards back in? I don’t understand this.
Maybe the next book will make this make more sense. 4 star listen I enjoy this narrator.
Looking forward to the next instalment..
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
On this, the penultimate of the series, we are getting into even more fantasmagorical territory. One more book is probably all I can take before getting too bored…really, authors should consider stopping at three or four. The current trend to serialise books is pretty irritating, but this series has been interesting. The characters are often a bit juvenile, but one can tolerate that, in the interests of light reading (or listening).
Against all Odds. Wow! this series is getting more intriguing, Now Sophie, Mac and Ruby must go to Los Vegas hunting a killer despite everything else going on in the girls life. More character development and some shocking twists make this another great listen from Gwen Demarco. I love Janine Granda's narration, she has become the voices of all the characters and I can't imagine anyone else doing it as well. I'm looking forward to book 5 to find out what happens next. Highly Recommended
These books just keep ratcheting up the suspense and expanding the gripping story. I hardly know what to write because I despise spoilers, which makes it very hard to even remotely talk about what is going on! Shifters, magic, evil fae, shards, assassins, secrets, surprises, romance, family, powerful allies, and powerful enemies. This series has everything and it just keeps upping the ante. Read the series! Beware, tho...this one has a cliffhanger!!
Learning you’re not human is hard. Learning your entire life is a lie and you aren’t even a whole person has Sophie struggling but life waits for no one. With her and her sisters unique powers they are sent to help find a murder who took out a high ranking son’s life. This will test thier skills. Now knowing there are five of them they continue to hunt for the other pieces as well as answers to their lives before.
OMG does this series deliver! The twists and turns that Sofie , the Odd Ones, and her associates are subjected to are unending (and much appreciated by this fan). This is a must read series. I can not express the impatience in awaiting the next release in this saga.
I need book 5 now!! So many jaw dropping revelations and sacrifices in this book. Sophie and Ruby are queens with Mac and Larry their faithful consorts!! The odd ones took a somewhat backseat in this book until the later 1/2 and the epilogue was just jaw dropping. Sophie is such a great heroine and Ruby is my favorite anti-hero crush 😂😂😂
Loved the storyline and the creativity of it is awesome. I don't hardly do reviews except stars but this storyline is one of my favs. I had to let people know its well worth the read. Would add more stars if allowed. Thank you for these reads
This felt very different and much tougher than the previous books. Life is fairly grim and there is plenty of betrayal and loss. Plus a cliffhanger which for me are lazy writing. If the characters are great the reader comes back.
This series just keeps getting better and better. The first one was fun and attention-grabbing, and from there the stories are better each time. This one was a wild ride from beginning to end. Can't wait for the next!
I just finished reading book 4 of the Sophie Feegle series- wow! The characters and twists are really great and the stories are interesting. I can't wait for the next book!
Against All Odds, the fourth book of the Sophie Feegle series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Sophie is such a great protagonist, and this writer has a flair for dialogue. I doubt I'll ever get bored with the cast of odd characters and the situations they find themselves in.
Can't wait for the next one... And I'm super bummed that there isn't a preorder link or approx. date for the release of the next one. Love how unique this series is in the urban fantasy genre. Well done.
This is finally a step in figuring out Sophie's origin story. There are also hints of just what a weird ride it's going to be. Cannot wait to read the next one...
Sophie finds more shards of herself, and finds out her background in this fabulous book. I am enjoying every moment of this story. It just gets better with each instalment
Another fantastic audiobook in the Sophie Feeble series. I enjoy the action, twists and turns, the characters, the magical elements and the smooth flow of the book. I feel like I am watching a movie when listening to the talented narrator Janine Granda. I can't wait for the next book!
