Looks like I may be the only person who’s read this on Goodreads. This came up on Twitter, as the book’s front cover is the author’s current profile picture, and it intrigued me as it hinted at some of kind of samurai/feudal Japan story (beyond the protagonist having a katana it isn’t).
It feels like there’s an ok story potentially; but there’s no character development, thoughts and feelings are repeated ad nauseam so they lose any kind of impact, and it’s just so bloated. Also lazy. The protagonist has all these deux ex machina type abilities, and you’re never really told how he gets them, beyond struggling initially, then all of a sudden he has them.
A good example is where his father/sensei encourages him to domesticate a goat. You know what’s coming. That much like the training of The Unsullied in Game of thrones, he’s going to have to kill it after he’s bonded with it to make him a more ruthless killer, which is what happens. The whole thing reads like a child wrote it, essentially: I liked Fi the goat, he was my only friend, then father made me kill him, I’m sad, and I hate my father. Though much more bloated, repeating the same thing again and again, so you really don’t care about what should
be a terrible event.
It’s not the worst book I’ve read, but it’s definitely in the top 3.

Very poor (being polite). Impression is that its written by a teenager (who failed English Literature).
Double spaced to pack it out and although the story does promise it totally fails to deliver. Cover and title give the impression of a Japonese feel but in reality just turgid rubbish. Best part of the book is the picture on the cover.

terrible

Don’t waste your time reading this it’s utter rubbish. No storyline and each line is double spaced. I guess this is to bulk it out?

Do not waste your time on this drivel. Appears to have been written by a failing 6th form english student.

Blatant racist undertones through this whole shameful piece of writing. The author comes across as a vindictive, calculated gaslighter.

I really enjoyed this story, full of action throughout. Loved the characters Sun and Jun. Excellent fighting scenes and great adversaries.
