Rimduum #3

Wraiths and Raiders

Rate this book
With his friends and family on the line, Clayson must find a way to heal the world.

Rimduum is Shattered. Stranded on the surface, my friends and I search for survivors of the mithrium crown's terrible power. Desperately, we track down refugees as we build a network of safe houses to shelter the vulnerable from roaming bands of darksmiths. But the more we help, the more our power shrinks.

Until new clues force me to strike a strange alliance. My search for a power strong enough to fight back will lead us all into dangerous territory. To the forest of Gamgim, filled with wraiths. To a city of fallout where the living buildings want nothing more than to absorb you into the machine. To the dungeon of the champion Erikzin Brightstorm.

Darksmiths lie around every corner. The mystery of the very foundation of this world will be revealed. But what will be the cost? Will the power add up to something I can use to protect those I love? Or will the secrets I uncover increase the deadly cost born by all who find themselves prisoners in the world of Rimduum?

About the author

Ben Green

6 books40 followers
BEN GREEN has always been a storyteller. When he was a kid, he would tear apart his coloring books and assemble them into crossover stories with lots of drama and lots of glue. Then he discovered action figures and took to burning Cobra agents at the stake and writing whole episodes of Star Trek the Next Generation. As a teen, he wrote Star Wars fanfiction and began creating his own worlds on a Brother word processor with a tiny screen and floppy disks. Meaning he’s also very old.

Though he grew up in Arizona and Nevada, Ben now lives in southern Minnesota where he puts his degrees in teaching, history, and technology to use as a social studies teacher for non-traditional students. He is passionate about teen issues and at-risk youth. This may be why he spends so much time with his four children, telling stories, working in the garden, and encouraging them to find something to be passionate about.

‘Go out there and build worlds of wonder’
What a powerful message from the author. The world needs more inspiration likes this:
Dedicated ‘to boys, young men, and men who risk being vulnerable and compassionate. You are a powerful force for creating a better world. Onward!’

The author starts off with some really cool illustrations of the Crafts (Royal, Industrial, Modern). Kinda like a timeline of history…or the “progression” of civilization.

I totally chuckled at The Blueweb’s being called the Brain Killer!

The author brought up two interesting points that I think applies IRL (and we need more of each):
** ‘All of our systems have been overreactions to world events. But you look at something and say, ‘This way is right,’ and forge a new path.’
I see this as similar to the “See Something, Say Something”, but with the added nudge of taking action over the long term.
** ‘Just know that you don’t have to take on the weight of the world.’
We have a saying in Judaism that one isn’t responsible to finish fixing the world, but rather has the responsibility to start.

Fave oath:
‘By my blood and by silver.’

Fave quote:
‘Follow the darkness.’

May we all use our Craft to make the world a healthy and safe place.

When they say they saved the best for last they mean it when it comes to the final installment of the Rimduum series. Wraiths and Raiders is aptly named as you visit more dungeons and explore more of the rich and detailed history of the Loamin world.
Clayson and the rest of the gang are back at it as they attempt to wrest control of Tungsten City out of Vor's hands. This heart-stopping and mind-bending story leaves you on the edge of your seat as unexpected players join the fray.
Truly a wonderful read and I cannot wait for more Rimduum content in the future.

Picking up immediatly after the wrenching end of "In Shadows Of Silver", author Ben Green follows with the third book in his "Rimduum" trilogy, Wraiths and Raiders which has Clayson and his crew throwing everything they have into saving Rimduum and stopping Vor.

It quickly becomes only too clear, that with every Loamin refugee that appears above granite, the situation at the Spangler compound becomes more and more unsustainable. They can not hold out forever, darkmages and goldmasks wait just outside the shrinking, protective shield. The team must go on the offensive and from the moment that choice is made, "Wraiths and Raiders" storyline plunges headlong into a careening, desperate mission that demands unbearable sacrifice and nerve. Everyone's ideals will be challenged, everyone's personal lines will be crossed. The pace and impact of Green’s storytelling never really lets up in this book and the revelations that are unvailed along the way lead to a world altering conclusion, a conclusion that I can honestly say without overstatement; I could not have expected.

This is a great book and a very strong conclusion to the fantasy/sci-fi, YA, Rimduum series. The trilogy includes "Forged in the Fallout", "In Shadows of Silver" and of course "Wraiths and Raiders".

A satisfying and exciting story of discovery and adventure. Third in the trilogy, some of the mysteries of the loamin kind are uncovered and the journey of protagonist, Clayton Brightstorm, continues with a taste of romance, pain, and redemption. I recommend this book to those looking for a beautiful new world close to the human experience but with more magic.

Forge a new path

Despite wanting to hit Ben with a cyber shoe, the man is such an impressive writer and does not cease to amaze me with what he comes up with. The dedication at the beginning of this book is one of the best things I’ve read, and it is so needed today. Everyone can be vulnerable and compassionate and know it is okay to be so, emphasizing young men who need to know it's acceptable. And I love seeing that written. Youth should read more books like this one because Green’s messages are wonderful, subtle, and entirely accurate for the real world as much as for this stunningly made-up one.
Inspirational creativeness in every crevice, Mr. Green does not let up in the third installment one bit. If anything, the stakes are higher than ever before, and the world and the characters expand.
This story sucks you in with thrill and excitement. It’s constant motion, action, excitement, and strife. Questions are asked and answered, and the world-building is unique, creative, and inventive. Did I mention immersive? You can see through Clayson’s eyes and feel his failures, triumphs, and heart. This story takes you to places you don't see coming. You think you know what to expect, and then Green twists the story, leaving you just a little breathless.
If you like fantasy, sci-fi, dungeon adventures with emotion, heroes you can relate to, and so much immersing action, you cannot go wrong with this series! All I have to say is I didn’t want it to end, and Ben Green is an author I will watch for all his future endeavors.

“‘For a raider tests his strength upon the unknown...’” Koglim huffs. “‘... and breaks the universe.’

I love Koglim's words of wisdom.

Mr.Ben has done it yet again!! His writing style continues to blow me away! I'm always so Captivated by his stories...legit they just blow me away! They hook me from right away within the first few sentences and oh my goodness...I cannot put the book down until I completely finish it. I legit almost pulled an all nighter just to finish this book in the first go...which I did finish this in one go. I couldn't put it down!! I was so deep into the world and adventure in which this 3rd book told! It's definitely a must read! If you haven't read the others and ran across this book first .. PLEASE start from book 1 you will not regret reading the whole series! The writing style hooks you, the characters draw you in, and the story is explicit!!!

I have loved every book of this trilogy. Clayson and all the Loamin are excellent characters who've grown and changed to suit their world. These are all well-written with a seamless plot and great world building.
This book in particular is very nail-biting: the Loamin are all coming to the surface but they can't stay that way forever. They have a shield that protects them from the surface effects, but it won't last long, as they have to keep spreading it out to accommodate everyone. And of course, the bad guys are coming, too.

This was an exciting journey. I have read the whole series all together and actually really enjoyed it. I'm not really into reading fantasy much because it just doesn't interest me but this one held me throughout the book.
