One warrior, one sorcerer, and a legacy that will change their lives forever
In the world of Socendor, humans are forbidden from using magic and elves keep their distance.

An attempt on Kalen's life makes it clear to Micheil that there s more afoot than random breaks in the land s defenses. His lover is plagued by dreams no human should endure, and Micheil s probe into Kalen s subconscious reveals a past neither of them expected. And a future Kalen can t escape.

1.7 stars rounded up and I finished this story as I wanted to read in the first place. The blurb was really intriguing yet I found this mostly as sex marathon between the general and the sorcerer. There was a promising plot here which sadly and poorly explored.
Nonetheless, I actually rather liked it. The concept is interesting and I was annoyed when it ended because I wanted more.
I actually quite like the characters and their interactions, especially the main couple.
Yes, there's a lot of that can be (probably should have been) expanded upon, but I think it's not a bad beginning (and now I'm having Series of Unfortunate Events flashbacks). I think it'll be interesting to see how the author continues to expand upon this universe and how xe grows as an author as this series progresses.
2.5 stars rounded up. Liked the general idea, liked the beginning, but definitely felt like it could have used some serious fleshing out in parts. Also, there was a fair amount of scene-jumping which was at times quite jarring.
The world of Lost Son is full of colorful inhabitants that includes elves and other mysterious and fantastical beings. Magic abounds but humans shun it and only elves are allowed to practice it. We have neighboring countries under an uneasy truce and with the danger of evil invaders set to tip the balance. These invaders, or “lithings,” half elf-half human, with ebony skin and hair are important characters to the story. With their use of poison and magic to augment their weapons, they are worthy adversaries. There is a whisper of dragons in the land, too, so ensorcelled weapons could come in handy.
The lost son is the progeny of the feared and powerful lithing leader, Breasal Vondrasek and an eleven queen. Breasal is known to be “the greatest sorcerer the world has ever seen”. His son, of mixed elf, human, and lithing blood, was secreted away for his own protection, and raised by foster parents. Lost from his home world and, of course, knowing nothing of his lineage and inherited powers. Meanwhile, Breasal has been killed in battle, but his other son, Braen, having taken the crown, is intent on using magic to “call back” his father’s spirit. To this end, he is also looking for his half-brother. Why? It remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, in Akuron, the humans are lead by King Andrion. At the head of his army stands General Kalen Ysindroc, strong, square-jawed and brave. Kalen is a decorated, highly respected warrior. His lover, Micheil, is the Kings’ seer and secretly, an elven sorcerer. It seems that elves and their magic are not welcome in this kingdom; so while Kalen is aware of Micheil’s background, it is kept hidden. Kalen and Micheil are given the task to ride out with a small troupe of men to investigate the lithing disturbances. The two lovers, veritable energizer bunnies of lust, fuck and suck their way through the land. There is, in fact, so much… physical exuberance…that it interferes with the plot, dragging the flow… the story flow, that is. Understand, they are determined and inventive lovers— at one point, even sharing a horse (that is, seated on the same horse) won’t get in the way of their consuming passion. Just when it seems things are getting somewhere in the story, there is a sex break.
It doesn’t take much to figure out who the “lost son” is and because this is a major detail, it remains for the author to give us something really compelling to chew on. While the world building is good, there’s a lot of confusion: information not always disseminated in the clearest way, a lot of characters who don’t get fleshed out, and some abrupt scene transitions. These, added to the way too frequent sex scenes, affected my rating of the story. For this review and more visit: The Blog of Sid Love
All is not well in Socendor. Rumors abound that people are on the cusp of a war between humans and lithings and General Kalen Ysindroc has been sent to discover if there is truth to the whispers. But Kalen’s journey isn’t an easy one. He’s having dreams of dragons and fire, dreams that portend his life is about to change dramatically. The one constant in Kalen’s life is his lover, elven sorcerer Micheil Thierauf. Micheil can tell that Kalen is not fully human, but as the two begin to work out the mystery of Kalen’s family, they find that they’re not the only ones interested in Kalen’s blood. Assassins are out to get Kalen and the family he never knew he had is on his trail as well. Will the lovers be able to stay together in the face of Kalen’s destiny threatening to tear them apart?
Journey to a land filled with magic and adventure in this imaginative tale by Mychael Black. The Lost Son is a gripping fantasy that starts off the Secrets of Socendor series with a bang. The Lost Son is fast-paced, intriguing, sexy, and sweet. The heroes of the tale, Kalen and Micheil, are two males you can’t help but adore. Their love for one another is strong, and they’ll need each other and that love to help them make it through the obstacles they face. I don’t want to give away too many details, as I’d neither do the story justice nor would it be fair to ruin the excitement of the story by revealing what the Kalen and Micheil face.
An engaging mix of sensuality, tenderness, and danger, The Lost Son is not to be missed!
This story made me really angry. I had some big problems with this author in his Legends of the Romanorum series, but decided that the blurb for this book looked good enough to risk it. Wrong idea. This book had so much potential and it is a pretty good read, superficially. Pretty cool world, cool characters, cool storyline. But I am so done with this author. This wasn't as bad as the third Romanorum book, but there were quite a few plot holes, things never explained, and was completely confusing at times. One thing specifically that bothered me was the fight between the two MCs. Firstly, if Micheil had just warned the love of his life of a traitor, why would he just leaved? I get that he was summoned, but later on he went on about doing what he wanted etc etc. Another thing that annoyed me about that was Kalen throwing a mug at a tree in front of all his troops like a little child. He is meant to be a General who fought his way to the top, yet he had a temper tantrum IN FRONT of the men he is supposed to lead? Dear lord. That is just so unrealistic to me. Sometimes, the writing was just utterly strange and confusing. I don't even know how to explain it, but a lot of the time, I felt like the author had forgotten about things that he'd already written, and thus had written something completely contradictory.
All in all, it had great potential but left me feeling angry and unfulfilled.
SlashReader: Alright so... I was not impressed with this book, which is sad because Black seems to have a lot of good ideas. Maybe I will see if there is anything better in a couple of years. We'll see.
For quick reading, my complains for this book in list form:
In short I was not impressed and wished that the plot had been the focus of the story and not the sex.
If you like the idea of Elves and the taste of the Lord of the Rings, with numerous love scenes that were well written, then this is the book for you.
Generally, I enjoy deep, meaningful, occasionally dark stories where there's some struggle between lovers. However, The Lost Son was different in that Micheil and Kalen's love scenes (and there were many) strengthened the bond between the lovers. A bond forged through intimacy and power transfer, more than just having sex and saying, "I love you."
Kalen, adopted and unaware of his true parentage, discovers his true birthright. This does not exactly brings him joy. But the discovery sets the stage for the sequel of this series. It will be interesting to see how well the author will test the bond between the lovers.
I'm rating the story with 3 stars. There were areas in the storytelling that could have been flushed out with more details.
