I read this book after spending a week at the author’s nature education center near Inverness in Scotland. It is a fantastic place and Lister-Kaye is a very intelligent, funny, and committed environmentalist. His watchword is ecological restoration and he is doing what he can to advance that cause. The book is a combination of romance, adventure, and ecological education. While perhaps a bit preachy at times, the story is always interesting and the insights are valuable. I feel the book gave me a deeper understanding of the land use conflicts in the Highlands Ltd Scotland and the history and aftermath of the Clearances. The conflict between hunting, logging, shepherding, and other land uses was clearly exemplifies. I,would recommend this book to anyone who is planning to visit the highlands of Scotland.
