Even if it takes an eternity, he will make amends... SAFE HAVEN
Angel and Co. are enjoying a rare moment of relaxation at the karaoke bar Caritas when a loud explosion draws the gang -- and the rest of the bar's patrons -- outside. A building across the way is on fire, but the conflagration is nothing more than a diversionary tactic to distract people from a drive-by shooting! And when the smoke clears, Fred is missing.
It's obvious she's been kidnapped, so Angel, Lorne, Cordy, Wes, and Gunn set about questioning everyone within the immediate radius. At least ten demons were direct eyewitnesses. One problem, though: Each tells a different story of what he, she, or it saw. It could have been gang warfare -- monster style -- or Fred could have wandered home without saying good-bye. One thing quickly becomes clear: Demons don't make for the most reliable sources....

This is a fun novel in Simon's (originally Pocket) long-running series of novels based on Angel, the television series spun-off from Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's set during the third season of the show, and all of the characters are present and well-written, especially Lorne and Fred. It opens in Lorne's karaoke bar, Caritas, where Fred is kidnapped, and Angel and company have to do some real detective-style investigation to locate and rescue her. The different accounts of the eyewitnesses to the attack are quite absorbing and cleverly written. A fast, fun read...cue the cellos.
A relaxing read. The plot is a bit mediocre. Not bad though. It’s well written and moves at a steady pace. The characters are on point, which is the most important thing in a novel such as this.
That's more like it! That was much better than the last one! Very enjoyable and how an Angel book should be - a quick and easy read! Jeff Marriotte has done quite a few Buffy and Angel books and is a regular author and it shows. His characters were good and in line with the show. The storyline was good - I liked having Fred in the foreground. Overall a solid TV tie-in novel. 4 stars.
I happened to see this at the library and snapped it up. The story takes place just after Angel and the gang get back from Pylea in season 3 and mostly revolves around Fred's character. The dialogue was decent but really really could have been cut down--there was a lot of useless banter that just went on pointlessly for pages at a time. Otherwise it was a fun one-off read.
