This book was a highly enjoyable read. While you'd think that a baby-name book is more for reference (unless you're actively trying to name a kid) this one includes all sorts of humorous comments and tidbits of information. The book covers names from a wide array of cultures that were relevant during its time period (variety of cultures, yes, but nothing too hard to pronounce by the western tongue. African and Indian names, in particular, were not especially well represented.)

The name meanings and backgrounds tended to be accurate, and the background information was enjoyable to read. There are also some paragraphs on things to consider when naming children, as well as some top-ten lists.

I'd recommend this book both if you're trying to name your child, and if you just want a fun read. I've sat for many entertained hours with this one, both on my own and reading along with friends.

Very funny and informative, but a bit presumptive and now very out-of-date. I'd love to see an update.
