‘Nuts about Nuts’ is a wacky, comical piece of poetry by Michael Rosen, describing various foods in exciting ways. The continuous rhyming gives the book its constant flow as Rosen describes various foods, such as honey, nuts, cakes, eggs, rice, ice cream and apples.

The humorous illustrations in the book make it a fun read for children in Key Stage one and the writing displays a good use of rhyming patterns. Rosen’s Youtube narrations also provide an enthusiastic medium through which the children can enjoy his work.

Nuts about Nuts is a poetry book written by Michael Rosen. The book has various pictures and illustrations throughout which is attractive to children. The book uses rhyme skilfully throughout and has a catchy feel to it. The book contains poetry about different types of food. This is a brilliant book to use to introduce poetry and rhyme to children. I think this book would be most useful in a year 1 class during an English lesson; to demonstrate rhyme and short sentences. I found the book really funny and enjoyable.

A poetry book for KS1 children which has continuous rhyme that gives the book a constant, easy rhythm and flow. As Rosen describes various foods such as honey, nuts, cakes eggs, rice and ice cream it is almost song like. There is a funny rhyming of words set out in a four line stanza which is accompanied by bright humorous illustrations. I feel that the repetition may be a bit overdone for the confident young reader.There is lots of opportunity for discussion on work meaning and open-ended questioning.
