Raw, honest, and utterly brilliant. A must read book.

Really a sad story about the childhood of Lori. This was the poverty with the fear of hunger. Her father passed away, and the step-father treated them badly. Her mother also could not take care them well. The life was stuck and repeated every day in hunger and in fear. I feel so down because I cannot do anything to help her. I saw my childhood somehow in her childhood. It was a dark period and it will always be with us. However, in the end, the storm was over, she and her siblings could be taken care at orphanage. They had a better life, a brighter future but the scars of the past will never go away. This is a part of life.
Whatever the life is, keep high hope, and one day the sunshine will come and bright again. Like a final chapter's title "Take care, be brave". This book gave me invisible power to keep going on and overcome my pain and fear.

Short, sharp book on an aboriginal family during the horrendous Australian settlement, being forced from their land and their beliefs, oppressed and taken advantage of. Great book if you want to learn more about that time period in an intimate way.
