Interesting read . . . not sure I agree with the theology being presented, but it does make you think. A strong image stuck in my mind is how the believer trying to live by religion's rules rather than the freedom they have in Christ can be likened to the indignity you would observe in seeing an eagle skulking around trying to live up to being a turkey - a striking image.
I read this book in 2018 and forgot to share it. This is a quick read, even for slower readers like me. It's a fun story about two eagles that get adopted by a family of Turkeys. They grow up thinking their turkeys. The parallel here is that we all grow up as sinners, in a world full of sinners. We fall into grace and sometimes forget that we're saved, because we're among a family of others that may not be in the family of God. It's all about God's grace, and you even get tested to see how much of God's grace you really receive.
A profound lesson taught in a simple story. I'll never forget this book, and will probably read it several times a year from now on. IT took me about 1 - 1.5 hrs to read. Large print. I believe it's out of print, but I found a copy on Amazon for half the price of most vendors I've seen. My pastor turned me on to this treasure. Simply Beautiful.
Wow. One of the more impactful books I have read in a while. This book really challenged the ways I have instinctively grown up thinking about sin, walking with Jesus, and living in righteousness. There is a huge weight of the heaviness of sin and striving that has been lifted off because of this book. Would highly recommend it to any believer.
You can't fly with the eagles when you're running with the turkeys. This is a great book that keeps it simple and remind you how important it is to surround yourself with eagles or you'll be just another turkey metaphorically of course.
My mentor used to refer to this book often and now I have my daughter eating it.
Received the book as a gift from a friend. My first experience with this author. Loved the analogy and it is making me think about my life in Christ. Different perspective than any to which I’m accustomed. I’d recommend it simple because it does make you stop and consider.
This book is simply amazing. A far cry from anything I would normally pull off the shelf, but one I will aim to keep closer to my heart than between a set of book ends. I read it in one evening; you should too.
Turkeys and Eagles should be required reading for every new believer in America. This simple story delivers a powerful message of spiritual awakening and transformation. Lord crafted an allegory that invites us to reflect on our own lives and embrace the deeper truth of the gospel.
Lord offers a concise exploration of the difference between living a life dictated by worldly norms ("turkeyism") and embracing one's true identity as a child of God, destined to soar like an eagle.
Turkeys and Eagles serves as a spiritual guidepost that illuminates the path toward a deeper understanding of our identity and purpose in Christ. For those wanting to soar to new heights in their journey as a believer, Peter Lord's timeless allegory offers invaluable wisdom and inspiration.
