Some powerful points, but also a few that were hard to swallow -- some parts seemed too simplistic, but then again, sometimes I think we make our spiritual life too complicated by overthinking it.
A lot of the same themes as The Secret, As a Man Thinketh, and The Power of Positive Thinking. Certainly, the title idea is one I aspire to: Let Go and Let God. Easier said than done.
I found this book at a local thrift store….what a gem of a book! Although written decades ago, this book is very thoughtful and has many helpful points. I will be keeping this book as a wonderful reference.
Albert E. Cliffe, after discovering repairing his spiritual life could heal his physical ailments, was a biochemist who left this work to teach others to reach their spiritual potential. Let Go and Let God is an excellent summary of his philosophy. Each chapter addresses ways we can correct our thinking to allow God to direct our steps, to declutter our lives, to access the Divine that lives within each of us. Written in 1951, the author's style is mildly dated, but his meaning and earnestness still prevails, and I found many of his insights inspiring and helpful.
There are a few troubling spots for me, which detract from Cliffe's message. He claims, "We should realize that all the health we wish to have, all the financial needs for successful living are ours for the asking," "it is always God's will to heal," "you need never have a cold at any time. Why should a little bug that you can't even see under a microscope be capable of dominating your blood stream, your body?" and "if you have not been able to succeed in life in some particular way, that tells me at once that you are lacking in belief, you have not realized the power of Man inside, the Christ within." He states that a slovenly woman is wrong when she claims to have a good relationship with God, because if she did, she would clean up the way she looked. Perhaps it's evidence of my own lack of faith, but I do not agree that lack of faith is the universal reason sickness and poverty exist, or even looking sloppy. I was likewise disappointed he chose to share an 'amusing' anecdote in which a black man is portrayed by insulting coon caricature. 1951 or not, I expect better from someone claiming to be a man of God.
In short, my feelings were mixed. I will make use of the ideas that inspired me to trust God and place my will and worry into His capable hands.
This book was written in 1951 so it is somewhat dated….except for all the basic principles. I found an original copy among my mother’s things after she passed away. This book is a must read for Christians…..or for anybody really.
Love it! To realize the power we have inside ourselves by being Christians is such a beautiful thing! So much happiness, health and love is waiting for us, we just have to have faith! It is that easy!!!
Fabulous, the author says it so well, such a good teacher. So easy to read for believers and non believers who I pray will one day believe. Have faith, find faith and love life.
First time I read this it was sitting on one of my Grandma's shelves, back when. The copy I have now was copyrighted in 1951, just wish I could find hers with all the things she highlighted and added too it.
It took me a lot of time to finish this book because I was only able to read this while waiting for my laundry. I didn't speed read through this one because I want to ponder the words in every chapter and truly enough, it opened my mind to new perspectives especially about my faith in Jesus.
