John Jamieson grew up and still lives in Metro Detroit, Michigan; now with his wife and two sons. He was a college dropout that was determined to find his place. John began investing in real estate at 21 yrs old and that began his successful career as a real estate investor and agent. He went on to train others on how he achieved success in those fields. However, John is a great believer in personal and professional growth and has invested (and continues to) time and money into learning what works for others and how he can apply that information to his own growth and success as well as expanding his own knowledge base. John went on to travel across the United States and Canada speaking at seminars and selling his training programs. To reach a wider audience he decided to write a book, The Perpetual Wealth System, that combined two of his favorite topics; wealth creation and preservation with real estate. John realizes that what he teaches in his books is just the tip of the iceberg on how he can help others to create systematic and guaranteed riches. John is licensed in real estate, life insurance and annuity sales in Michigan and other states.

The author with his over 20 years of experience and expertise has composed in this book the information and instructions required not just for a beginner but also for a professional. There are various topics covered such as docking terms, storm proofing, seven defensive prep-streps and much more! Sailing is nothing short of an art and the author has covered every corner that is even understandable to a novice like myself. I found each chapter a learning process and acquired wealth of knowledge. Even as professionals, having as much as information doesn't hurt as safety is everything! I highly recommend this book for all sailing enthusiasts.
John Jamieson’s book “Captain John's DOCKING SECRETS” is an invaluable guide that helps the reader to improve certain aspects of the navigation’s world; in this case he teaches us sailing skills. This title provides the reader with techniques, information and instructions that are clear and well organized. Particularly, this was my first time reading a piece of work of this category and I found the vocabulary a bit complex or specific, however as the author includes good illustrations, I could understand everything perfectly. The questions with their correct answers at the end of each chapter are great allies and an excellent tool so the reader can apply what he previously learned. I absolutely recommend this masterpiece.
Captain John's DOCKING SECRETS by John Jamieson is an interesting and quick read that shares and shows the reader how to tie the most useful boating knots. As regards the book’s format, the table of contents is broken up into five chapters which include explicit drawings, clear explanations and links to useful programs that help a lot. The vocabulary is absolutely specific and this made it a little difficult for me to read since I am not familiar with certain terminology. Anyway, I didn’t let this intimidate me since the simple descriptions and steps to follow are more than clear. This is a perfect reference book that anyone can enjoy. Maybe, it could be also a great gift for boat enthusiasts or people who like, love, or use knots.
“CAPTAIN JOHN'S DOCKING SECRETS: An Essential Guide to Docking Success with Practical Tips and Techniques to Master Your Boat Handling” is the second book in the “Sailing Skills" series. I did not hesitate to acquire this one and I will also do it with the next one. It is a very useful series that serves as a practical and theoretical guide on all the important things you need to know if you want to sail your own boat in an increasingly professional way. It is exciting and captivating. I really enjoyed the reading time and I incorporated a lot of new knowledge and aspects that I will surely put into practice in our new boat trip with my partner.
Once again, Jamieson surprises us here with this second installment of a series that had me at the edge of my seat right away without me even realizing I would become so glued to its pages. The narrative gets more and more interesting as the author explains with pinpoint accuracy all the terminology, useful information and everything we need to know in order to become experts at docking. The subtitles he includes help a lot to classify the information and it makes it easier for us to find what we are looking for. This book is educational and the content shared here has been exquisitely developed by an author who is knowledgeable on the topic.
Captain John’s Docking Secrets is an excellent guide for beginner boaters. While it seems like an easy task to be on the open water, navigating the dock seems to be what causes the most hesitation in my life. From an expert in the industry, the author has served in the US Coast Guard for over twenty years, which gives even more confidence in his ability to provide trusty information. It’s a quick read, but the information contained within is useful and practical. The skills that the author specifies on are essential to safe and efficient water travel, and the process shown is simple to follow for even the most beginner learners.
This is the second of the series and fully immerses you in docking procedures. Use of spring lines, storm proofing, backing into a spot and safety tips for the marina are only a few of the topics covered. As with the first book, this book will give you a plethora of information about the topic and explain with both words and diagrams what the author is talking about. I found this to be very interesting and surprising. I didn't know all the details that went into docking a sailboat.
This is not a text book teaching docking. To learn docking systematically, the ASA's docking book might be more comprehensive.
What this book provides are many very useful practical tips that a docking textbook won't mention. For example, the author gives the safety tip about how a dockhand/crew should position himself to get out of the danger zone of a loaded dock line. This hasn't been mentioned in any of my ASA101/103/118 classes!
This thin and short book is well worth of reading for any new hands in sailing.
