When I get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go on a luxury space cruise, I jump at it.
This cruise is the beginning of something amazing, and nothing is going to stop me from going.
But when things go wrong shortly after departure, it’s clear I have made a mistake.
Suddenly thrown into a world where I have no way of defending myself, the last thing I expect is an Atari warrior coming to my rescue.
This cruise has been full of surprises…but the Atari is the biggest one of all.
He’s tall, growly, possessive, and he sends my pulse into overdrive with just the slightest look.
Why the heck is my body reacting this way to this stranger?
And did he just declare that I am his mate?

★★★★★
Claiming His Mate is a steamy, standalone, sci-fi alien romance intended for mature readers.

What to Possessive ‘kill you if you harm my mate’ vibes, a strong heroine who doesn’t let her disability hinder her, a hero that’s good with his tools, danger, suspense, emotion, tension (lots of it), chemistry, flaming hot steamy scenes, fated mates, and a guaranteed HEA.

ehhh the fmc was very stupid, hellooo when some alien says he's your mate you stay with him that's an unspoken rule????? anyways i remembered why i usually don't read first books of new alien series because it's depressing . i don't want to know details about how they kidnapped it's making me sad and why would i want to be sad??

Kloak the little elf kind of creature was the highlight of the book i wish it had more scenes 🤷

i guess i'll continue reading this series because it's interesting with disabled female characters and there's also a prince so let's see what happens next to this poor women

3.5 stars fated mate mars need women.

This book started out dark AF, with extreme violence and abduction. I liked the FMC and thought her commitment issues were beyond valid. I liked that she was an amputee and had to deal with systemic ablism her whole life and the way this impacted her perception of her value as a partner. Most of this book takes place over a 5 day period, so it’s clearly a fast burn romance. However, with the mental health issues the FMC had, I think allowing more time for an emotional bond to form, even if they are intimate, would have made this book a lot better.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: m*rder, abduction, trafficking

(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
This is book 1 in the Fated Mates of the Atari series – start here but yes I think read this one in order as the plot of the heroines is beginning here. If you have the Claimed Among the Stars anthology I believe this was published in there – but it has 30k words added to it and has been revamped a bit.

Basic plot:
Marion jumps at the chance to take a luxury space cruise, but soon realizes it’s not at all what she was expecting.

Give this a try if you want:
- science fiction romance
- spaceship/alien planet settings
- alien hero/human heroine
- disability rep – heroine has one arm (I believe it was during birth?)
- hero nurses heroine back to health
- rescue plot (heroine in danger)
- hero will comfort you during your nightmares
- who did this to you?
- fated mates – though I will say it didn’t go quite the way I’m used to fated mates going!
- protective and possessive hero
- hero bathes and feeds the heroine
- light vampire vibes – the hero’s species bites to mark
- medium – at least 3 scenes (I get lazy with notes on audio and I know there were 2 scenes that flow together that I combined so it might feel hotter to others.)

Ages:
- Don’t recall either mentioned

First line:
My hand tightens around my ticket, almost crushing it as I enter the ship.

My thoughts:
Well, I had a narrator disconnect with this one, sadly. This narrator was too exuberant for me and I wasn’t a fan of her male voices. It kind of made him sound a bit ridiculous. But looking past that, I did like the story! It had a lot I really like in romance, so I’ll definitely try more in this series but make sure to read the next one if the narrator is the same.

I struggled a bit in the beginning just because it was taking forever for the mains to be on page together. As I’ve whined in many reviews, I like my mains together soon and often, the whole book if I can get it 😆 It wasn’t until chapter 8 and in a 28 chapter book it felt way too long for me.

But once they were together I really enjoyed a lot of it. It had a bit of a twist on the fated mates aspect that I rather liked because I had no idea how it was going to turn out. I loved the sex scenes, loved the primal play and how protective the hero is. This is my second AG Wilde book (I also tried Xul) and I definitely want more in my life!

3 stars at best

This was a book I couldn’t wait to finish and it felt like it took forever. It wasn’t terribly written but it wasn’t great. The FMC was annoying. Great there is someone with a disability being represented but all the real “action” and challenges were boring. It opened well then nose dived as soon as we were out of the beginning horrors.

Claiming His Mate is the first explosive sci-fi book in the Fated Mates of the Atari series by AG Wilde. What was a chance in a lifetime turned out to be anything but. Kidnapped and sold by vile creatures who take, no matter who you are. Creatures who torture, rape, and murder, no matter the consequences. It is a dark, high-stakes tale of romance, action, tension, and suspense. A series that should not be missed.

But hot on their heels are aliens hoping to stop them from exacting revenge. These new aliens are loyal, courageous, and will take on all looming threats that jeopardise their lives and those they swore to protect. These alpha heroes find something they thought would never be possible, and that is a connection with humans in the face of uncertainty and danger.

Marion and other human women who have physical disabilities have been tricked by their human government and think they are going on an all-expenses paid space cruise. They have no clue that their government made an alliance with an alien race, and as a sign of good faith they are sending women to them to be potential mates. Aqnar and his men are waiting for the women at a checkpoint when they figure out something isn't right. Turns out other aliens found the ship of women before they did, and it lead to a travesty. This is about Aqnar tracking down a human woman he saw getting kidnapped by his enemy, and he apparently feels this unexpected pull toward her.

Marion and Aqnar were super sweet. I love how persistent Aqnar was, he knew this woman was destined to be his. There was a large difference in tone between the beginning and end of the book. The beginning was quite violent while the later half was cuter, so I would have preferred more of a bridge so it could have been a little less jarring. I am looking forward to the other books in the series!

TW: death, blood, gore, massacres, ableism, kidnapping,

TROPES: alien romance, fated mates, disability rep (heroine was born with one arm), savior

This book had so much potential but overall fell a little short for me in certain aspects. There was a lack of description in character detail, especially surrounding the love interest. Aside from rippling muscles, his eye change and white hair, I couldn't tell you what he looked like or what color his skin was. This book also had a lack of depth in certain aspects. The relationship between the two main characters was too rushy and too back and forth at times. I would have rather liked to have seen one main conflict verses ten little ones in order to see them finally connect. Did she really need to travel off planet for three days and create drama? No, she really didn't. It didn't make sense why she did. The mature thing for her to do would have been for her to just sit down and talk to her or the sister about everything. Overall, this could have been executed a little better than it was. I will say that the second book was better than the first.

This was a little too instalust/instalove for my taste. I am okay with the mmc experiencing an instant attraction through a mate bond but I want him to work for it!! I don't know what this trope is called(maybe primal kink?) but I really enjoyed the parts where she ran from him and he chased her down. But I wanted more!! I also enjoyed the beginning of the book, I loved the darkness and murder and blood. I love a dark scifi romance.
That being said...
I found myself skimming. I was just kind of bored. I wanted more...more world building. More character building. We really don't know anything about the characters or who they are or the world they live in. I'm not a big fan of miscommunication either and there seemed to be a few instances of that here.
I like this authors other books, so I might still give book 2 a try.

If 👏 the 👏 nice alien man 👏 tells you that you are his mate 👏 believe 👏 him 👏 ………. period 👏

The first half of this book was sooooo good.!

Our female, who is a lower level New Earth citizen, gets invited on an all expenses paid luxury cruise ship, but she soon realizes that only women are on board and they all have some disability.

Turns out, their government traded a group of their “lowest deemed citizens” in exchange for alien technology. These aliens (the good guys) were told these women were consenting and on board with the “bridal program.”

The cruise ship is quickly over taken by bad alien men who slaughter (in full detail) all women on board except for our 4 female characters.

The hero’s group (a team of 4, how convenient) were waiting for the ship of women to arrive when they realize something is wrong. They track it down, see the gruesome scene, and review the footage to find 4 survivors who were taken.

Our hero feels a pull towards our heroine, so he goes to rescue her after being taken to be sold as a slave.

He rescues her and THIS is where the book goes down hill.

Our heroine was whinny at times. Our hero was insistent that she was his mate and she didn’t believe him and eventually runs away. Ugh, GURLLLLL. But she still liked him! Where was the adult conversation?!?! Are the adults even in the room with us?!?!😩😩😩 I also feel like the last 50% of the book was purely character driven and it was just them having sex or whining.

Overall I liked the story and how it turned out but I wish we had some other background action going on in addition to the story.

I will be continuing on though🥰

3.5 // It begins dark as hell but develops into a sweet, if angsty, romance between a human woman with a disability and the alien warrior who rescues her. I like that the darker part of the story is the first part of the book and the latter is more her coming to terms with a hot alien man desiring her. Having had to deal with systemic ableism all her life on New Earth, her feelings of unworthiness are a poignant part of the story.

The beginning has these girls looking too stupid for words and even though the main goes on to reflect on how stupid she was it still doesn’t detract from how ridiculous the first part was. The rest is VERY fluffy without any real depth to until maybe the end bit. Bummed but it’s always a little hit and miss with this author so I’ll probably stick around for book 2

Interesting word choices

The language used during the intimate scenes is an interesting choice. It makes me feel like this story was written for someone in the 50+ age bracket. Marion is kinda dumb. I liked Kloak, he was fun.

As with the previous books I’ve read by this author I found this book to be a very good read. Marion, our heroine is boarding what she thinks is a deluxe space cruise. Such is not the case. Not long after they take off the space ship is attacked by monsters. It’s quite graphic and very few survive. Marion is one of the very few and she is taken of the ship to be sold into slavery.

It seems the ship was destined for another planet and there is a small crew of somewhat human like soldiers waiting to escort them. When the ship doesn’t arrive, they go looking for it and find it. Aqna is the one who boards the ship and is horrified by what he observes. When he watches the tapes to see what happened and he spies Marion and is drawn by her bravery. He decides he must rescue her from whatever horrible fate awaits her.

This is your typical alien fated mates romance and I’m just very taken with this trope. I love how protective Aqna is and far he will go to save her. The planet, New Earth, where Marion hails from has a stringent class system and she is in one of the lowest ones. She has no friends or family and can’t believe this heroic man could care for someone like her. But he does.

A.G. Wilde is a recent find and I am for sure going to keep reading her books. They are available on KU but since they definitely fall into the reread category, I’m purchasing my favourite ones.

Meh

This isn't the worst story I have read. It's just feels like manufactured angst with a heroine who hangs around passively pointing out how crappy her life has been thus far. And, it has been. But, still, her one character comes across as meh.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised by my reaction to this book.
I've read all the other series by A.G. Wilde and even though I haven't loved every book in every series, the first book has always made me want to continue to the second and so on. This was the first time that I wasn't interested in continuing the series.

It's a fated mate romance so obviously the characters will fall in love in an instant, but I still want the characters to have adventures with one another.
It kinda felt like I was being set up for a high stakes story only to then be served fluff, which is not bad if that's what you were expecting, but in this case the story starts off with so much going on and then just fizzles to "okay I found a mate, let's get together and not communicate at all with one another in order to create drama to a situation that isn't dramatic at all"

The sex scenes were good, but I wasn't invested in the characters or their relationship.
It was a fast read (cause nothing really happens)

Spoilers:

I'm rating it 2 stars, cause I did finish it and it's not even a horrible book; I just found it boring.

The scifi romance for people who don't really care about scifi

When Marion wins a free trip on a space cruise, she jumps at the chance to escape her life on the Lower Levels of Earth, if only for a little bit. When pirates attack the ship, she ends up with more than she bargained for. Aqnar didn't expect to find his mate on the job, but the defiant little human female he's liberating moves him in unexpected ways. Now he just needs to convince her of it too.

Heavy on the romance, light on the scifi. Marion and Aqnar were a nice enough couple, and he is technically an alien so it can be classified as an alien romance, the scifi aspects were just not what carried the book. It wasn't erotica so the story wasn't secondary to the sex but the main focus was the relationship and they just didn't really do it for me. They were fine, nothing wrong with the characters, I just didn't connect with them very well.

Marion is a disabled woman who was tricked into an all-inclusive free space cruise provided by the government of New Earth. Upon boarding the vessel, she noticed first that there were no men and second that the other women, like her, were in some way disabled. She became acquainted with about 3 of the other women. One was blind, one missing a leg and the other was in a wheelchair.
Soon after entering space, the vessel is attacked by vicious aliens and not many of the women survived the attack. Marion was one of the few who were saved. I am wondering if the other books in the series are about the other women who were saved.

The opening chapters are intense and very well written to ensure you do not put the book down, and you don't. I felt the author tried to maintain that level of intensity throughout the storyline and the intensity was there, but low level. Nonetheless, I didn't hate the book. However, I'm not sure if I liked it enough to continue with the series.

I cried and fell in love

I saw this new release in my newsletter and needed a bit of a pick-me-up. I am so glad that I did. Over a hundred New Earth women won a trip on a luxury space cruise.....and then you know what hits the fan. Four of the females are introduced and this story focused on Marion and the Atari warrior that manages to save her.
I love the fated mate trope. This one was so heartwarming and had its steamy moments. I adored that our heroine wasn't one of those perfect supermodel types. So refreshing! And seeing her grow and learn how capable and wanted she is as a person even though she feels unworthy due to the ridiculous rules of Earth at the time.
I recommend this read! Give it a go 💛

I love this author's writing, but this one was not as good as the others. Maybe it's because it's an embellished novella that was published before, but there was something off with this one.
There was an extreme amount of the word "cunt". I'm OK with the word, but I read it so many times that it made ME uncomfortable. And the sex scenes were more... explict/vulgar/raw than the author's other books- I'm not complaining, I'm just stating the fact.
The ML growling "mine" got a bit repeatitive as well.
It was not a bad book, just not as good as her other ones.

Claiming his mate de A.G. Wilde serie Fated mates of the Atari libro 1

Argumento:

Salvó y protegió a Marion.

Liked it

A fated mates sci-fi romance that starts with a bit of danger and darkness, and then changes as the hero & heroine go from facing bad guys to more intangible obstacles. The heroine, Marion, has lived her life as part of the lower class on Earth and has dealt with being labeled defective by her own people for having been born with one arm and one stump. The hero, Atari warrior Aqnar, is an honorable warrior who has always wanted a mate, but thought it was unlikely due to his race's dearth of females.

This falls into my liked, but didn't love category. It starts a bit dark & bloody, but later was a bit more emotional / about what's in her head. I thought this book touched on issues of internalizing bad things other may say about you. However, in the end there was another cause for the problem, so it could be read either way. I always enjoy different or imperfect heroes & heroines, so I liked the idea of a disabled heroine. However, I felt the book left a few too many information gaps (details below) that would've smoothed out the story.

*****Spoiler Alert*****
This Book Includes
Violence.
Bloody massacre with swords and decapitations aplenty, whipped, caged & sold, attacked resulting in murdering bad guys.
Sex. MF sex, some hand pining, alien with ridged cock, mating bite.

Get Your Details Straight
In the beginning of the book the heroine's name is Marion Taylor, but at the end it's Marion Hemmings.

Confusing Moments
When describing another species I thought I read that they are like the Atari but without fur? Since when do the Atari have fur. Also when the hero says the heroine's not ready to be marked I thought he was hinting at some kind of knotting, but there is no knotting. So, why exactly is he waiting?

Mate Bond
If you've read enough sci-fi romance then you know that the words 'mate bond' can mean just about anything. So, it would make a heck of a lot more sense for the heroine to be worried about not feeling a mate bond if someone, anyone, described it a bit to her first. For a while there I thought the mate bond was just everything she was already feeling - horny & drawn to him - but her self-doubt wouldn't let her see that. Why is she so convinced that what she is feeling is not enough? It would take about 2 sentences from the hero or Klaok to right this problem.

House Elf
I felt the house elf-like 'Klaok' was a bit of a throw away character. At first he fulfills the role of helping the heroine see that the hero really is a good guy, but then he just is kind of there doing nothing.

Over the top
It's sci-fi romance so there is broad leeway here. However, the number of red flags about the 'cruise' the heroine was on were a bit too many to do otherwise than make her look stupid. Also, the hero not eating while he was looking for her was similarly too much for me. I would prefer a hero who kept himself in shape while looking rather than stupidly weakening himself.

Logic problems
When she gets to his house he has a medic come check her out. Why doesn't that medic find the contraceptive implant?

4&1\2 fabulous 🌟s for Claiming his Mate💖💖🔥🔥

I first had the pleasure of reading this in one of the best anthologies I've ever bought "claimed among the stars" . When I saw that the author expanded the story and was turning it into a series I was all in. Just as I remembered it was so excellent. Earth is over populated and it's decided to get rid of those they deem unworthy by sending them off to marry the Antari . The horrible thing is none of the women who board the ship know this they believe they've won a free cruise among the stars. While on route to their destination the ship is attacked and carnage happens only a few are left alive. Aqnar is an Antari warrior on route to find the ship with the human women. What he comes across is absolute devastation. When he watches the video feedback he knows who is responsible and finds out there are a few females that have survived and he is on a mission to find them. Marion is a strong female who is captured on what she believed was a cruise. She is missing an arm but nothing gets in her way she is a fighter. She tries to help her newly made friends but the attackers are to strong and she is taken and sold at an auction. Her only bright spot is that the male who bought her is an honorable Antari warrior. This is where they're story truly starts. Trust is earned ,self worth is questioned but no matter what passion and love does conqueror all. It's an awesome start to a new series! I can't wait for the next book in the series!💖💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥

I picked this up when I heard that the heroine has a disability and I love finding rep in romance. Marion was born without a part of her arm and accepts an offer to go on a luxury cruise from New Earth's government. She has worked hard in the lower classes and sees this as an opportunity of a life time. but things turn out bad when they are hijacked by aliens and most of the ship are killed. Marion barely escapes with her life when those violent aliens try to sell her.

The hero, Agnar and his three friends are expecting to welcome a ship of females as a trade from Earth. They sense something isn't right and Agnar discovers some of the women are taken alive. He rescues Marion. She has been hurt in the past and even the government deemed her undesirable as she is not allowed to have children because of her disability. This feeds into her doubts and insecurities on why Agnar would want her - he is a bronze god in her words.

I thought he was such a cinnamon roll even though he is huge and looks scary, taking care of Marion and wanting to dote on her. He rescues the Newot for her! The way their fated mate bond develops was interesting. There is quite alot going on as the women were tricked but the Atari society seems better than what they have been living with on New Earth.

I would be interested to read the other books in the series.
