Although the book “The Making Of Inspector Morse” by Mark Sanderson is not anywhere near the definitive volume regarding either the book series by Colin Dexter or the ultimate source of information on the television series, the book is of interest to anyone contemplating delving into in the ‘Morse’ cannon.
The highest praise I offer is the wonderful photographs of the different selections of scenes from the T.V. show. The book also contains an afterword listing the seasons of the show, the original air date, who authored that particular episode, and who directed it. Each series also credits the producer of that series.
The book also offers a nice interview with John Thaw (Morse in the series), theatrical actor, Kevin Watley who portrayed ‘Lewis’ in this and the following series, and an interview with Coin Dexter.
The end result of the book is an illustrated (with photographs), behind the scenes history of a remarkable success story. In chapter one of this book the author chooses his favorite three of the shows.
