What can a woman do for an encore after she backs over her husband's new laptop with her car? - How long does it take to defrost a turkey with a hair dryer? - What do you say to a house guest who, before going to the bathroom, has to fish two wooden blocks and a set of car keys from your commode? - There is no end to the sources of frustration, challenge, disaster-and humor!-in a woman's life, and there is no one more skilled at finding the merriment and wisdom in the everyday foibles we all share than Karen Linamen. Welcome to the Funny Farm guides you on a side-splitting, hopeful, and entertaining tour of the challenges women face-and in true, tongue-in-cheek Linamen style, no topic is off limits! These fifty readings, originally published on the Women of Faith web site (www.women-of-faith.com), cover everything from baby showers to cell phones, holiday frenzy to Hamburger Helper, dumb blonde jokes to well-woman exams. Karen's collection of observations will inspire and entertain you (though not necessarily in that order) and ultimately shed light on principles of spiritual wellness and Christian living that will enrich your life as much as her rib-tickling stories will delight your heart.
A book on the comical side of the life of a woman, good to read at this time with all that is going on in the world. She has a very good sense of humor.
Karen Scalf Linamen's books are always a hoot, and Welcome to the Funny Farm is no different. This book makes me laugh, and also makes me realize I am not the only nut on the farm. I don't feel alone when I read this book and all Linamen's humorous books! I now know there is at least one other person going through the same misadventures as I, even if it is just taking a trip to the grocery store.
Mixed here. I loved that each entry of this Christian Mom's experiences ends with a Biblical parallel. And I also love the retro-ness of it. But I am not a fan of women comediennes. With the exception of Betty White and a few of the other classics. So if you are a fan of Christian content and funny women then this is your book!
Welcome to the Funny Farm book that takes a somewhat funny look at some of the challenges and even disasters in a woman’s life. We women can relate to most of Karen’s observations. This is a must read for women. It is funny and the topics cover a range of topics that you will connect to and laugh. Karen spreads a light on spirituality and Christian living that will enrich your heart. These fifty chapters were originally published on the Women of Faith web site (www.women-of-faith.com).
A collection of writings from Karen's magazine column. A funny look at the things that happen to all women and a refreshing reminder that Jesus is still the king even amidst the mess. A nice relaxing read.
This collection of amusing incidents in the author's life concludes with a spiritual application at the end of each story. Linamen is very real, very human, and very Christian. I wasn't expecting the "moral of the story" kind of experience when I got the book, but grew to enjoy it. It helped me think maybe I could do the same in my own life--draw a lesson from my own mis-adventures.
I have no idea where this book came from nor did I know anything about the author before reading it. I found out that she is a devout Christian which I was not expecting. This is not a negative just an observation. Some of the stories in the collection were laugh out loud funny.
This was a hilariously real piece of devotional work. I appreciated Linamen's honesty, but also her way of deftly turning incredible humor into a challenge that often stepped on my spiritual toes. I look forward to reading this one again and again.... something I rarely do.
Cute little read. The author is a Christian writer, and each chapter is an article she wrote for a Christian magazine. The articles are funny, uplifting, and left me with a smile.
3 stars for being a clean and uplifting read. But, unfortunately, I couldn't even finish the book. There were a few laughs, but mainly I found it dull.
