Gullivera

Rate this book

Jonathan Swift's classic takes a naughty turn in the savvy hands of the Italian Manara. Follow the bawdy adventures of lithe Manara-girl Gullivera through Lilliput, the land of the Giants, and the land of (horny) talking horse. Watch how thousands of tiny Lilliputians tie her barely clad beauty down to the beach, how she is used as a splayed-leg arch for their triumphant troops, how she lets a couple of young giants play with her willingly and how she meets an airborne group of women so desperate for attention from their inattentive men, they resort to loud S&M parties between themselves. Funny, light and beautiful Manara.

I unashamedly love Milo Manara, whom I discovered at a too-young age and whose continental sexiness fuelled a lifelong appreciation of a) bande-dessinée literature and b) reading in foreign languages, both of which led me to many other more serious and amazing discoveries later. Unlike his many American imitators, Manara never feels misogynistic to me – there is something very playful and somehow European about his style that makes you feel he is laughing as he works, rather than leering. He's also a very skilled draughtsman – not quite on the level of François Bourgeon, say, but enough to lift him head and shoulders above most of the competition.

His heroines tend to be wide-eyed but self-assured naïfs and this one is no exception – it's about a girl who falls asleep reading Swift and goes on to have, or more likely fantasize about, several ludicrous gulliverian adventures in a series of abbreviated outfits. (The Houyhnhnms episode is mercifully brief.) It's less explicit than some of his other works and it's a big favourite in this house – Hannah and I actually cannibalised this copy so we could frame some of the pages for our bedroom (pictures which, by the way, Hannah sort of rolls her eyes at whenever we have guests, as though to silently imply that she wasn't the one that chose and hung them). Including the one above, which as you can see is in Spanish. I normally read him in French, so god knows where I picked this copy up.

For me the experience of reading things in foreign languages completely changes how I react to them, for better or worse, and it may be that if I'd bought this in a local shop and read it in English I'd find it humdrum and irritating. As it is I think it's utterly charming and sexy.

Gulliver's Travels, but Gulliver is female. Without pants.

I saw a single image from this and had to track down the full book.

A retelling of Swift's classic "Gulliver's Travels", but the hero here is a girl from the modern world who loses her air mattress while nude sunbathing, and shenanigans ensue.

The art is gorgeous. The English translation of the story is simple though laced with enough innuendo to amuse this reader. There's a lot of nudity here, and some light BDSM scenes, but no actual sex.

At 72 pages this is a quick read. Seek it out for the art, but not for the story, and if you're looking for erotica you won't find it here.

WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS GRAPHIC SEXUAL DISCUSSION INCLUDING STUFF ABOUT A SPECIFIC FETISH! IF THIS MAKES YOU UNCOMFORTABLE DON’T READ THIS BOOK OR MY REVIEW FOR IT!

SUPER FAST REVIEW:
Oh boy... I am not used to reviewing this kinda comic...
Okay I’ll just say it. This comic is basically hentai. Okay so it comes from Europe, not Japan but it’s still basically hentai. It’s a comic made for fapping to.
So that being said I’m not gonna pretend it’s a beautiful, tasteful masterpiece that everyone needs to read, it’s kinky giantess porn in comic book form. That being said I sometimes enjoy kinky stuff and have a giantess fetish so... okay, I enjoyed the fuck out of it and was turned on as hell, there I’ll just say it!
Okay so as far as an in-depth look... there’s not much substance to a comic like this. I will say that the story is fun, kind of an NC-17 rated parody of Gulliver’s Travels (which I actually should read sometime as I remember enjoying the abridged for kids version I learned in middle school... yeah, in case I wasn’t clear DO NOT SHOW THIS TO KIDS AS A FEMALE-LED COMIC BOOK RENDITION OF A CLASSIC) and the artwork is actually fantastic, not gonna lie.

(One of the few pages Goodreads rules would allow)
Unfortunately it is very anti-climactic with it’s constant random sexual content and the dialogue is definitely iffy (though not quite terrible I suppose).
The general plot is kinda predictable but there’s some little stuff that isn’t.
As far as sexy stuff goes I LOVED IT! It is one of the hottest comics I’ve ever read, at least to me, though not everyone will find it hot. It’s specifically for those who have specific fantasies. There are a couple of iffy erotic scenes that made me slightly uncomfortable but they’re VERY brief and there’s a lot more kinky giantess stuff than anything else (and it is surprisingly far from “vanilla”, even for giantess standards) so I was mostly turned on throughout.
Overall I guess my brain is going “gosh, this is such a low substance comic with barely any plot aside from stuff to be turned on by, some twists were decent and the art is wonderful but it’s as a whole only okay at best” but my dick is going “THAT WAS SO FUCKING HOT! MORE KINKY COMICS ABOUT GIANT CUTIES! LET’S READ IT AGAIN! THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!” so I’ll meet in-between with a 4-star.
Definitely nothing to particularly recommend as many will have a “WTF” reaction instead of my reaction but hey, if you’re comfortable with this type of content and have a thing for giant (or tiny) women, this is one you’ll most likely enjoy.

I'm Gullivera, a hot high school girl. I sure like to sunbathe in the nude but that nerd Waldo the fisherman will tell my mommy on me, so I'd better go out off shore on my inflatable raft and do it out there. Gee, it's hot. I need to take a dip. Oh no, when I slid into the water the raft turned over and I lost my bathing suit. Oh, I can't find it in this water. I guess I'll have to board that mysterious ship until Waldo comes around. Maybe there's something in here I can use to cover myself. Wow, it looks like a ship from the 1700s. Look at this old British flag; I'll fashion myself a skimpy outfit out of this. And an old naval officer's hat. That oughta look dashing. And look at this old book. It must be worth a fortune... "Gulliver's Travels"...hmm, I'll read this until Waldo shows up...

That, more or less is how the opening dialogue panels go in this charming and sexy softcore graphic-novel/comic erotica version of Swift's fantasy satirical adventure epic.

Our heroine finds her own adventures mirroring those of Gulliver: she finds herself a giant in the land of the Lilliputians, and later a miniature plaything for giants, then a pursued object of desire in a land of talking horny horses, and finally a welcome guest in the city in the clouds where the men are impotent and the woman are all horny S&M-loving lesbians.

My favorite panels show Liliputian children innocently and blithely sitting around playing in Gullivera's bush (to the scolding of their mother), and the giantesses' saving of the queen, who is on fire. Fast-thinking Gullivera pisses on her to put out the inferno -- and the ingrate queen gets mad about it! Oh well.

The final panels are gratuitous and lovely ones that did not fit neatly into the story but provide a display of Manara's erotic imagination and artistic skill. There's a certain art-nouveau flavor in Manara's more elaborately detailed and rendered images; shades of Maxfield Parrish, perhaps.

Gullivera is a sight to behold, and there's no opportunity lost to display her.

So, yeah, I enjoyed this.

I remember finding a bunch of old Milo Manara comics from the library shelves when I was, about, twelve. Back then some really good art like this would have been enough to keep me occupied - but as a grown-up, one wants for a bit of story with it as well.

Kitap elbette Jonathan Swift'in meşhur Güliver'in gezileri kitabının bir parodisi.

Full-color adult graphic novel.

Manara's take on the Swift story of Gulliver's Travels, this time with a woman who has trouble staying clothed. The story starts with a young woman, whose name is Gullivera, doing some nude sunbathing on a raft on the ocean. She falls asleep on the raft, falls off, losing both the raft and her bathing suit. She swims out to an old looking ship that has been anchored nearby for a week without any activity. The girl finds an old British flag, makes a dress out of it, and finds a copy of Gulliver's Travels on the ship. As she begins to read it, a storm comes up and knocks the ship off its anchor, and off they go, ship and girl.

Gullivera ends up lying on a beach, tied down. She has entered the land of the Lilliputians. Gullivera helps the Lilliputians in a war, puts out a fire with a different type of liquid source, and eventually leaves and finds her ship, undamaged. The ship takes her to a land of giants, including vicious giant rats, and giant humans, a brother and sister who find and capture her. Next, Gullivera very briefly visits the land of horny talking horses (the horses might have been in one panel).

After fleeing the horses, Gullivera finds a floating city in the sky, filled with horny women, and sleeping men. The men can't be roused except by loud noises, and . .. Fleeing the "pervs," Gullivera returns home.

Oddly enough, the Swift story, on occasion, had more erotic scenes (and more disturbing).

Includes nudity, and whipping. A rather light little book.

Well at least it was better than Jack Black's Gulliver's Travels. Very innocent despite written by Manara. Erotic and sexy without ever getting to a point of being dirty. A nice little 15 minute read and that’s about it I guess. Nothing I’d buy to put on the bookshelf, but worth the read at least. The art is nice and the text bubbles work nicely within the frames.

I really liked this again if you're not into Giantess I wouldn't recommend this but you are give it a shot I like how it goes from her being the Giantess to tiny ( even though it's not my favorite part still a good concept) then finally to her being normal some graphic content as well so if you don't care for that you can skip but all in all a good story

Let's be all real here : it's porn(well, erotica per se). So, don't expect too from it.

As the title suggests, it's inspired(copied would be more appropriate word, but whatever...) from the classic Jonathan Swift Tale, "Guliver's Travels". Only this time, Guliver is a woman. And as the cover page suggests...she is bound to show skin for the sake of showing.

The plot is basically point-by-point taken from the classic : liliputs, giants, talking animals etc etc. Our protagonist, Gulivera, was enjoying the sunheat on her naked skin one fateful afternoon when she saw this mysterious, ancient boat. (She even find an age old copy of "Guliver's Travel" there!). The journey starts there, marking the beginning of a LOT of shits.

Well... nothing much to say beyound this. A good time pass, I guess. 2/5.

Well, it's not Druuna, that's for sure. The story is cheesy as it gets. But, in these erotic comics there's this unique pleasure of looking at images of fantasy women frozen in their best pose from best possible angle. Nothing in this world achieves exactly that. When you see perfect wiman on photoshopped picture, you know there's something missing, removed. If you ask me, photoshop erotica is like looking at 100% amputees. When you see perfect skin in erotic comic, you know imperfections are there, it's just the nature of the media that simply cannot go bellow that level of perfection. So you keep dreaming, without guilt and without feeling cheated. Hardly gets better than that.

Chtělo by to aspoň trochu rozehrát...

A humorous and sexy take on Gulliver’s Travels, Gullivera is kind of a waste of time (pure entertainment) but the art is very beautiful. I love Milo Manara’s storytelling despite the whole story being random and horny. His art also reminds me of Yoshitaka Amano’s.

I recommend this to those who like mature genre, those who would like a light read, and for those who love good sketch and light colors.

French comics are weird.

This is the sexy version of Gulliver's Travels that I don't think the world was asking for. With more full-frontal nudity than I've ever seen in a comic, even though it's only about 70 pages.

Gullivera is an itinerant young lady who likes to be naked, and gets carried to several islands from Gulliver's Travels, so she can flash her genitalia at people many times smaller and many times larger than her. No, literally, that's the plot. In Lilliputia, she volunteers to be a triump arch for the army to march under, and they are threatened with blinding if they look up at her nether regions. And then giants get her drunk so she can writhe around on one of their fingers. And then she gets weirded out by a flying island of women into spanking. Oh, and bestiality and urination also come into play throughout her adventures.

The art and color work is well done, for what it's worth. Ultimately, that just increased my embarrassment at reading it (thankfully in private). I know we Americans are prudish about a lot of things, and this book served to illustrate that thoroughly in my case. But the book makes it pretty clear from the cover just what you're getting into, so I have no one to fault but myself.

I was questioning whether to put this into my read category when I really only skimmed it but come on! This isn't the type of literature that's ought to be read with utmost attention and dissected. I also only had a French edition, and I was too lazy to translate the bits I didn't quite get. I am mostly disappointed to be honest. When I was little, I had a crush on Ginormica.
description
Like... who wouldn't? So, I thought that I am basically the targeted audience for this, but... I guess not. Don't get me wrong, Gullivera has a very nice ass, and we see it almost constantly, but all of the... eh... stories(?) felt unfinished. OMG I am such a pervert, but... just you know, there is no sex in this, some of the pictures are pretty shocking sure , but most of the content isn't really actively erotic, there is . If you are turned on by female body, some of the pictures are pretty sexy, the use of your own imagination is needed though. What I'm saying is... missed potential.

An erotic retelling of Jonathan Swift's 'Gulliver's Travels' in which a young woman is shipwrecked by a storm and finds herself travelling to lands of tiny people, giant people, talking horses and a flying island.

Think of some of the most famous scenes of 'Gulliver's Travels' and then picture Gulliver as a woman with her boobs, arse or vagina (or all three) on display. There you go, you've now experienced this book in its entirety.
I'm not entirely sure who this book is for, to be honest. Fans of Swift's satirical classic will find this shallow take on it to be insulting and fans of erotica will probably find it a bit tame (by which I mean there's no actual sex featured).

I have to give credit to Manara for the illustrations, however, which are beautifully sensuous. But that's all there is to this book of note.

Also, the age of Gullivera herself concerns me, since she's naked and sexualised throughout the book but also mentions having to go back to school soon, which is alarming.

Manara brings his dirty mind and gorgeous line to the satirical novel now chiefly remembered as a prototype of the Honey, I Shrunk/Blew Up The Kid/s franchise. Unlike many adaptations, he does include the Houyhnhnms and Laputa as well as the scale shenanigans in Lilliput and Brobdingnag, though doubtless many readers will feel it for the best that Gullivera doesn't spend more than a page among the inevitably horny horses. Coming in at 69 pages could only ever be described as 'nice', but is doubly so given the tone; it does, however, mean that this could never really be more than a squib, albeit a very pretty one. Still, if nothing else, it's amusing to consider quite how much Swift would have hated it.
