This is a shockingly open book that provides great insights into the private life of a celebrity. Much of it is the way Hollywood memoirs should be written, but it's less than five stars due to an extremely dull last hundred pages and the author's unveiling of herself as a morally bankrupt person.
Marilu Henner bed-hops her way through the entire book, focusing on sex in every relationship (including with major stars like John Travolta). While it's fascinating to read someone dish about her bedroom antics with other celebrities, she also has no problem cheating on partners, sleeping with married men, and (as we find out very close to the end) having an abortion when the consequences of her actions are inconvenient.
Her chipper, upbeat attitude and energy make for fun reading, but Henner is often delusional and clueless when it comes to her own weaknesses. She stubbornly sticks to an odd diet, complains constantly about her own weight even though it's less than most American women, thinks everything is fate, and acts like it's normal to have a weekly phone therapy session with the same counselor for 20 years.
With all of its flaws, the book is a great insight into how TV series are made and how celebrities are normal people--there is more insight here about Travolta than I've ever read elsewhere (though it's odd that she avoids mentioning his Scientology beyond one sentence while going overboard to try to convince us of his manliness in bed).
The whole book is not about Henner as much as it is about the men in her life and how she uses her body to flirt to get love from them. The irony is that every guy she sleeps with who she doesn't marry gets overpraised, and the two men she commits her life to get slammed. Though Travolta is the supposed love of her life and they sleep together often over 15 years (while each has other relationships), she marries the first time after only knowing actor Frederic Forrest a few months. She exposes him to be a flawed raging alcoholic, but Henner looks dumb by refusing to let go of the abuser. Then they finally divorce after he gets sober!
The book unfortunately loses steam (and interest) once she and Travolta break up. Her second husband is a commercial director but the author throws him under the bus throughout the latter chapters, which includes a long, dull section on their infertility struggles. Any Hollywood memoir that spends 25 pages on having a baby is misguided.
While hearing about the sexual freedom of a Hollywood wild child can make for fun reading, the actress is just too much to handle. She thinks she needs to fix everything in a man's life while having the greatest sex ever each time she's in bed. Henner comes across as a bit looney, someone who needs some serious psychiatric help and probably needs to be on medication. Much of it stems from family trauma that came from her dad dying in her arms after beating up her brother, resulting in twice-a-month therapy session with all her siblings. But there's something deeper there where Marilu feels the need to seduce every strong man she encounters and then marries the weak guys. So while you'll enjoy reading it, be ready to think Marilu Henner is pretty crazy by the time you're done.

I figured that it would be a humorous book. But I feel bad for her poor kids. She says such crazy things I wonder if she doesn’t have mental illness that causes her to so delusional. And everything in her life is the best yet laced with tragedy. Too many examples to share.

This book was ok. I just could not get into it. To me it was more of a brag book. Yes she did have some awful things happen to her but still to much of a brag book for me.

I'd been wanting to read this book for some time and Marilu's appearance on Dancing with the Stars inspired me to finally read it. I'm really glad I did. The book was funny and I love her attitude. She is so fun loving and positive. She is true to what she believes and enjoys her life. The world needs more people like her.
