Always an adventurer in life as well as writing, New York Times best-selling author Cherry Adair moved halfway across the globe from Cape Town, South Africa to the United States in her early years to become a interior designer. Now a resident of the Pacific Northwest she shares the award- winning adventures of her fictional T-FLAC counter terrorism operatives with her readers.
Cherry settled in beautiful San Francisco, where she started what eventually became a thriving interior design business. "I loved being a designer because it was varied and creative, and I enjoyed working with the public." A voracious reader when she was able to carve out the time, Cherry found her brain crowded with characters and stories of her own. "Eventually," she says, "the stories demanded to be told."
When asked why she chooses to write romantic action adventure, she says, "Who says you can’t have adventure and a great love life? Of course if you’re talking about an adventurous love life, that’s another thing altogether. I write romantic suspense coupled heart-pounding adventure because I like to entertain, and nothing keeps readers happier than a rollercoaster read, followed by a happy ending."
Popular on the workshop circuit, Cherry gives lively classes on writing and the writing life. Pulling no punches when asked how to become a published writer, Cherry insists, "Sit your butt in the chair and write. There's no magic to it. Writing is hard work. It isn't for sissies or whiners."
Cherry loves to spend time at home. A corner desk keeps her focused on writing, but the windows behind her, with a panoramic view of the front gardens, are always calling her to come outside and play. Her office has nine-foot ceilings, a fireplace, a television and built-in bookcases that will house approximately 3,500 paperback books.
"What can I say? My keeper shelf has been breeding in the middle of the night, rather like drycleaners' wire clothes hangers.”
they were married, I DON'T care if it was consummated or not. He didn't even bother divorcing his wife when getting a new mistress. So no, that's cheating.
3.5 stars. I’m not much a “Blaze” reader, but this one was pretty much like a Harlequin Presents with a whole lot more sex; the sophisticated, sexually aggressive heroine is even a virgin. Ah, good old Harlequin.
Seven years previously, a young, lonely, Jessie quickly married a stranger, to help him with a business deal. She was powerfully attracted to Joshua, but he didn’t even learn her real name and never saw her again. Now Jessie wants a baby and she wants it born in wedlock. So she sets out to seduce the husband who has no idea who she is, trying to protect her heart by only seeing him long enough to conceive. Of course it doesn’t work out that way.
This is fairly standard category fare, with a cold, mistrustful tycoon hero and a spirited heroine who makes him love and trust against his will. It was sometimes touching and enjoyably angsty, enough so I could forgive both characters for less than stellar behavior. I confess, I wouldn't have minded losing some of the sex for more drama or plot.
This was a 3.5 star book. Considering the conditions, it had lots of potential.
A marriage of convenience between the H/h, a 7 year separation, a heroine who wants a legitimate baby, a case of [purposely] mistaken identity, a drawn out seduction and non-consummating lust, followed by absolutely ridiculously hot love scenes, a cold-hearted hero warming up,some angst and finally a HEA.
It fails in only one way - flow. I've heard great things about Ms. Adair, but this is my first book by her, so this may just be her style. Basically, the scenes were choppy and difficult to see the love affair unfold. I mean, it did happen, and it was easy to see the changes, but it was not smooth. Ms. Adair included some scenes about them gambling together, which I can only deduce that it shows their difference in status, but otherwise, it had no point.
Honestly, its difficult to pinpoint the failings of this book, because there wasn't anything obviously wrong - it just didn't have...enough? It didn't make me fall in love with Joshua, and Jessie was great in the beginning, but became...drab as there was no further character development.
I liked the circumstances in this book, where the heroine is the one who lies to get what she wants, a baby. She legally marries for convenience (his) when she was 21, but now she wants a baby with her husband. What starts of mercenary becomes more emotional and true with time. But, Ms. Adair makes Jessie an adrenaline junkie, trying to add dimension, which kinda falls flat.
You would think that when one marries, one would notice the name of the person you marry, but the hero fails to (and the explanation why actually makes sense). Joshua is this rich guy who marries Jessie to keep his share of the company he had worked so hard to keep. He wasn't bad usually, but he kinda creeped me out when he used terminology from a 100 years ago. Unless he reads HR, I don't know how else he would enough to use in casual allusion.
Overall, Ms. Adair sets up a great stage for a sweet, sexy love story, but it lacked flow and a special umph, making it merely an ok read.
Was mir während des Lesens aufgefallen ist: Das Buch erinnert etwas an "Shades of Grey".
An enjoyable read, however the plot has been somewhat used and reused and then used again. A few things thrown in are just a tad bit unrealistic. No one, and i don't care how desperate they are, is going to ask for a speedy marriage to a complete stranger to get more control over a business. if it's just a business arrangement; this "speedy arrangement" (hell your a businessman), find a businesswoman and sign a darn contract that way. ( there's another one that i'll be mum about,)
Anyone that goes into a relationship should expect to be involved in someway. feelings and emotions are bound to spark up no matter the enticement and benefits of the relationship, and no matter how long (10-12 months come on).
This was a good book, i really did enjoy it, it was mostly light. i did like how the main characters came together and it showed how they became emotional involved and slowly attracted to each other on a different level. "Jessie" has shown to be one incredibly understanding person, and Mr. moneybags has more hang ups then the poor, poorgirl.
I smiled, chuckled and got something in my eye. anyway i did not like how rushed the ending was and how he suddenly "got" over it and knew what he wanted ( between you and me , personally i would have made him pay for that last comment, and if you've read this, or decide to , you'll understand ;)
Seems a popular choice. 3.5 stars. Not worth 4, but better than 3. Also agree with other comments, more of a Harlequin Presents than Blaze - possibly due to the publish date of 2002. I think the Kindle release was much later and probably gained a new audience.
Hero (Joshua) is a "poor little rich boy" who marries to gain control of a family company from his uncle. The only available bride is a waitress with name-tag "Vera" from a greasy spoon in the middle of nowhere. They enter into a marriage of convenience for which he promises to give "Vera" anything she wants in return - one day.
Seven years later, a now polished Jessie (Vera) wants to have a baby, so she contrives to meet Joshua, at a party hosted by his uncle, with plans to seduce him so she could have this baby while married. What she didn't plan on, was falling for Joshua.
I liked this book but it was a bit long, probably 20-30% longer than a regular M&B.
Enjoyed this book both times I have read it. I really felt the pull-push of these characters and all they go through. Had good balance of things happening or going a certain way I didn't expect which kept it fresh and interesting. There is a certain "charged" feeling in this one that really adds to it.
Almost 4 stars. It was pretty decent, and I was emotionally invested in the characters. I agree with another reviewer who said this was HP-like even though under the Blaze title. Mostly I felt like it was a little too long and I wasn't sure what the point of all the scenes were. But still a decent read.
An entertaining, heartwarming romance read. If you're in the mood for a quick, steamy romance read, then this one is a good choice for a mindless few hours.
I wanted to not like this book. Like, when I first started reading it, I was like, "This is going to be so dumb. I can't believe this plot." By the end, I'm like, "THIS IS SO GREAT." Why? I have no idea. It's not a great book. There's a huge, glaring plot hole waving in your face the whole time you're reading. Yet, I liked it. There was just enough drama that I wanted to keep reading. I was enthralled. Again, I don't know why. This is not a very good book. But I liked it. *shrugs*
We have a rich man who needs to marry someone quickly because...reasons. So he marries a waitress at a diner, promising her she'll never have to want again. Seven years later, the only thing she wants is, "ALL THE SHE WANTS IS ANOTHER BABY. SHE'S GONE TOMORROW." Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. So, she wants a baby. He'll pay for invitro with someone else's sperm. She wants his baby batter. So she (after a big ol' glow up) goes to him as "Jessie" (her real name; he thinks her name is "Vera" which was the incorrect name tag on her at the diner), and ends up in this one year contract to be his mistress. He has no idea who she is. Apparently that glow up was pretty big. He also hasn't seen his real wife since they got married that day, so there's that. So she's trying to get pregnant. He just wants to bang. But they end up falling for each other. Oh, but too bad Jessie is in too deep.
I just need to know how Joshua doesn't know what his wife's name is, considering it would have been written on the marriage license. The Justice of the Peace would have said it out loud when they got married. It would be on all official documents from her an his lawyers. Like...HOW? Just, just...close your eyes and forget about that. lol
You have to suspend your disbelief for this one in the premise and story, but I enjoy Cherry Adair's dialogue and style so I rolled with it. You'll like it if you like the author's other works and enjoy more sex scenes (this is a Blaze).
WHEW! Colleen sure knows her steamy books! This was the first I've read by Cherry Adair and you can be sure I'll be getting more. You just have to love the leading lady, and though the hero seems to be pretty unredeemable in the beginning, he thaws enough to make you start to care pretty soon. The intimate scenes ... very well written and the chemistry was palpable. The only think that kept it from being worth 5 stars (to me) was, I would have LOVED some more time after the climactic HEA moment in the last 3 or 4 pages. There's no way you could have too much of something this good!
Oh, gosh, come on, this is dumb even for a Harlequin category romance. I would manage to suspend my disbelief for each new WTF moment, only for another one to come along. The hero and heroine get married... for convenience! They never see each other again! The hero never bothers to learn the heroine's legal name! The heroine wants to have a baby! She only wants to have the hero's baby! She sets herself up to meet the hero and he falls instantly in lust with her! They flirt and date for a bit! The hero insists that she sign a one-year "mistress contract" which has the most ridiculous clauses I've ever heard of! She indignantly refuses! But she's ovulating and she wants his baby so she signs it anyway! They begin to fall in love, interspersed with him making ridiculous demands (she always has to leave his house at 3 AM, he keeps trying to give her expensive presents she doesn't want)! She feels bad about tricking him into pregnancy so she starts using birth control but only when she remembers which isn't often because she's basically as dumb as a pile of rocks! They go on a variety of trips together! The hero's uncle and lawyer have been extorting money from him, claiming that it's his wife demanding the money, but then they've just been investing it for her in case her pregnancy scheme (which they know about) doesn't work out! The hero and heroine begin to fall in love! An ex-girlfriend says she's pregnant but the hero doesn't believe her! The heroine gets pregnant! The hero tells her he had a vasectomy so it can't be his! The heroine storms off! The hero's servants are mad because they all adored her (despite not interacting with her basically at all during the course of the novel)! The heroine sends him a cashier's check for all the money his uncle extorted! She also gets him a toy train! He realizes he looooooves her! He learns that she actually is his wife! Hurray, happy ending!
The whole thing reads kind of like a twelve-year-old's idea of how a billionaire romance would work. Maybe a ten-year-old, actually; with the Internet, tweenagers these days are surprisingly sophisticated. I just spent a lot of time going "What, really?"
I actually forgot to finish this book! Preggy brains...
Anyway once I got over the ick factor that he married her in a marriage of convenience, without even bothering to find out her actual name, then abandon her, and live life like a bachelor with a string of mistresses... Nope I cannot get over it.
SPOILERS
This was worse when he revealed he'd had vasectomy after his THIRD mistress attempted to trap him with a paternity suit... gosh!
So much deception on her part too... otherwise I did enjoy bits of the stories especially the presents she got him near the end. Both had sad childhoods, only difference being he'd had money and at least servants to look after him physically.
So my good reads list has gotten way out of hand. I’m now working backwards reading the books that have been in the list the longest. This is book #2 of reverse order 🙃. I love Cherry Adair’s writing, this book was printed in 2002, it took me a minute to realize that. I kept wondering why he wouldn’t just call her cell. Then I looked at the print date and was like ohhh. I really loved this book, Jessie just wanted love and to love in return. My feelings for Joshua took longer to form. He truly was an ass in the beans some of the end, but I came around and everyone lived happily ever after.
I liked premise and the beginning. Then when they met again I was a little bit disappointed since instant love/lust isn't my thing. But then it became better again and their relations were evolving as story progress. It was pretty enjoyable reading overall for me.
