Janus is a Hunter (like a policeman or guard)in a covered, futuristic world. He and his partner work in the penal dome, keeping the peace among the convicts there. In the previous book, Hawk, Janus' partner, took a wife from the penal dome.
Now, Janus is pursuing his future wife, Faye. She is a daughter of a disgraced Hunter (actually going undercover, but neither of the protagonists know that). So, as she is trying to decide whether to follow her father into the penal dome or leave the Hunters' sphere under a cloud of suspicion, Janus changes his game plan. Previously, he'd been trying to coax her to talk to him during evening social gatherings. She is attracted to him, but figures he's too dominant and she's not submissive enough for his needs, so she avoids him. Now, she's unprotected in her home, so he moves in on her, and then moves her into his home ostensibly to protect her. She's no longer being treated with kid gloves . . .
Ultimately, it turns out that maybe Janus isn't as big a dominant as either of them thought. When Faye pushes back and challenges him, he kind of likes it.
Now this is a story to enjoy and fantasize about. I found Janus to be a good alpha male and Fay to be a strong and capable female. My only problem was that I felt the story moved too quickly and I was missing more to the story. However, I thought the sex scenes were hot and I loved Janus control.
So if you are looking for a quick and yummy read, this is a good one to add.
