This is a terrific little inspirational book! I found it to be very inspiring! Great book to pick up if you're feeling in a rut, this will inspire you out of that rut!!!
One of my colleagues left this book on a cart of “free stuff” for other teachers to take. There were multiple copies, I assume for student use, and I grabbed one. Who doesn’t want a free book?
Overall the sentiment of this book is good. There are some meaningful poems in here, some a little dated, but I could see this being a great intro to poetry for students who are nervous about reading poems. They are very easy to digest and the sentiment in the majority of them is good for kids to ponder/journal about. I could see myself using the poems as a prompt for my middle schoolers at the beginning of class.
I’m not really into self-help-y books, so it felt a little tacky to me… and I wouldn’t recommend this to someone just to read. A good teaching resource, maybe a nice coffee table book, but not something I’d recommend to someone for pleasure purposes.
It could have been a one star for me, but gave it two because after all there are a few good pages. I bought this book a long time ago in the bargain section, when Borders was still in business (sigh). When I started the book it put me off for its vague, generic, abstract “wisdom” and platitudes amounting to “be happy”, “smell the roses”, “think outside the box” in stanza form which is not even good poetry. Remained shelved for a few years until I decided to make an exercise in patience and finish it once and for all.
Great book for therapy and instilling gratitude. With mindfulness all the rage right now, this book is helpful in challenging yourself to be thankful and better yourself one baby step at a time.
It's a cute little book. Enjoyable quick read to help you feel motivated and inspired. However some of it is just the same meaning but said differently
I picked this book up while working at the library bookstore. I love tips and ideas for making life better. I also like motivational books, which this one is. The author reminds us to "Carpe Diem" and live with passion and purpose. I got a lot of inspiration from the book, and it gave me some motivation to get moving. A few things were a little repetitive, and that's why it earned 4 stars. It is a keeper on my bookshelf.
07/25/2024 - Re-read after pulling the title out of my TBR jar. I forgot I had read it before. However, good enough ideas to read a second time. A good refresher. I still rate it 4 of 5 stars. Some repetition. I am going to be taking this book into work for my patients to read. Very hopeful stuff.
This is a neat little book, filled with brief ideas followed by brief explanations of/expansions upon the idea, and then punctuated with an appropriate quote. It's very easy to get through this quickly, but I found many ideas within that I'd like to return to later—not out of procrastination, but because I can't possibly get to it all at once. It's very much an inspirational book on seizing the day.
Been reading 10 pages a day and enjoying the inspiring or common-sense suggestions and thoughtful quotes; could go back to this time and time again to regain perspective or remember what's truly important. Thanks for the book, Mom :) Finished book this morning; will keep around to re-read when needing some gentle guidance, inspiration and motivation.
Inspirational little book about getting motivated to do something different with your life. I like what Drew Barrymore said about hugs. She stated that she wishes she were an octopus; so she could hug 8 people at once.
It overlaps a bit with another book by the same author called It's Never Too Late. I liked that one better than this. Still nice to read from time to time in order to shift my focus to 'now.'
