I enjoyed this story. Darcy's parents are alive but he's estranged from his father because of Daddy Darcy's unhealthy attachment to Ickham and does not live at Pemberley.

I really enjoyed this and hope there is the promised epilogue. Some editing problems that I hope will be fixed if she publishes this.

Read this completely from the beginning as I have a terrible memory. It’s very good. The epilogue is a little confusing.

Blurb: “George and Anne Darcy are still alive but estranged due to the elder Darcy’s continued support of George Wickham. It is a very different Fitzwilliam Darcy that meets Elizabeth Bennet in 1809.”

>>Rating: MA: graphic descriptions of cruelty, abuse, murder, death of a character
>>Angst Level: a bit stressful, the SBRB was horrid. Frustrations will run high as the reader is furious with the senior Darcy. That man…!!!
>>Source: Unpub FF >>Status: Complete: 22 chapters posted as of 7-23-23 [Epilogue pending]

George Darcy did not put his family or their safety first. No, his allegiance and priorities were somewhere else and it was misplaced. I have never disliked the elder Darcy as I did in this story. Lady Anne was having none of it. Her children came first before the steward’s son.

“There’s no bitch on earth like a mother frightened for her kids.” –Stephen King

Lady Anne Darcy was in protection mode for her son and daughter. The situation became so bad she presented her husband with an ultimatum. When he didn’t choose them, she left. Her father was an Earl and a non-titled Darcy would not be able to go against him. She then went on and created a new life for herself and her children without Darcy or Pemberley.

The reader knew it would take something drastic to turn the senior Darcy around and it happened. I was disgusted with his attitude and Lady Anne and Lady Catherine called him on it. Mrs. Reynolds’ quick actions put the kybosh on the final outcome. That was what let the reader and Lady Anne know his attitude had not really changed. His misplaced feelings were still the same. I wanted to chew nails after that. I was so upset with him. I would have kicked him to the curb myself.

The rest of the story was of the younger Darcy making a life for himself and overcoming adversity from several directions. He was in trade after all and felt the distinction of rank from several quarters. However, he never played on the fact he was the Darcy heir. He created a career that would support himself and his family. He then leased Netherfield Park since it was in the country and yet, still close to town. Soon the moth was drawn to the flame. Yeah, that was cute.

Lady Lucas wanted Darcy for her Charlotte. Meanwhile, Mrs. Bennet was determined that he would do just fine for her most beautiful daughter, Jane. She could not understand why he was attracted to her second daughter. It didn’t make sense. Mr. Bennet found the machinations of the local matchmakers amusing.

It was through Darcy that Bingley met Miss Bennet. Oh, Caroline… keep your nose out of the air and you might see what is happening right in front of your face. She was ridiculous and stepped on a few toes of the quality. It would be years before she could return to society, if then. Jane, what is your problem? Wake up and smell the coffee. Lady Catherine took her to task for her meekness and tried to tell her just who and what the Bingley siblings were. Caroline came with her brother.

Lady Catherine was a hoot and I actually liked her. I am starting to like stories where she shines. She cared for her sister [Lady Anne] and had no time for George Darcy.

Another great variation by this writer. It is very rare foe me to find a fic that has both Darcy's alive and so different form canon. I have to say I liked the direction the writer went with it, both Darcy and Elizabeth had a parent denigrate one child and put the other on a pedestal in this story. I have to say this writer writes the courtship/romance between Lizzy and William very well. The only reason this was not a 5 star for me was I was personally not in the mood for the angst. Any angst. But I have to say except for a few editing issues (very, very minor) the writing was good. This writer made me like characters I would not have before and dislike ones I have liked before too. A great read all round.

A very good story that has ODC meeting younger. Darcy’s parents are both living, but are estranged due to old Mr. Darcy’s unwavering support of George Wickham. Anne Darcy is healthy and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to protecting her children. ‘William’ forges his own successful path away from his father. Lady Catherine is also quite different in this variation.

It is well written and I really enjoyed it. I will check out the author’s other unpublished work. Recommend.

I liked this book very much, hence reading it several times. I believe I read first ’Interior of a Family’ (2022) and became interested of the author’s other works. I have also read ’Our Jane’ (2022), maybe in 2024. The other works are on my reading list.

This book has the same starting point as in Jaeza Rayleigh’s (LadyJaeza’s) No Good Deed and Altered Deeds (the later published as A Proper Form of Pride): Mr Darcy Senior favours his godson George Wickham over his own son. In this book Lady Anne is alive, and defends his son (and daughter) from both his husband and George Wickham.

One of the few that I read along as each chapter was released. I do like a Darcy with a terrible childhood overcoming and coming out better at the other end - thanks to his mother's family (and surprisingly Lady C as well). All this means that ODC doesn't have the usual misunderstandings and miscommunications standing in their way.
