This wasn't a bad book, just wasn't really anything special,or memorable. I really loved the spiritual element, I think that made it better. I was a little confused, why was Joe shy of Anna, but desperate to se her, was he in love with her? I found it a little predictable and guessed what would happen as soon as she said somthing abouth thinking that dead people always come back to you, and her son died and... yeah that was just unbeleivebly predictable. but overall not a bad read.
Originally, I was going to give this novel four stars but the ending just didn't manage to do it for me. Seeing as we were reading this in English class, it was a very good book, but I wouldn't be too impressed if I had chosen to read this myself. There are many red herrings, which don't get me wrong are a great literature device, but they were used far too often and became a slight annoyance. Certainly, I enjoyed the whole crime and mystery aspect of the book but generally it was very slow paced, especially for a short book. It was very intelligent of Alex Shearer to include the mystical and suspicion of the shop Joe's mother worked in and the ouija boards: that definitely made the book better. I wish Alex Shearer had developed Anna's character a lot more though, that certain feature was very short winded, and due to that I was slightly disappointed. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this novel, it should be for a younger and less matured audience as it teaches quite few good morals.
Omg this book was so good. I am 12 I just loved it. I was a little confused at the end but the two boys they where joe and Johan? I'm not really sure but other then that this mysterious and dark feel to it was really good. I loved the friendship on it. When I was reading and got to the end I didn't want to finish it because it was too good, but I was glad I did anyway. I rate this book 8/10 yes it could have a better ending, bit it was still worth it.
This book is called "The Lost", it is a mystery type book. There are two main protaganists in this book; One is name "Joe" and one name "Jonah". The beginning of the book starts off by Joe and Jonah going to school and Jonah got distracted by a fire siren alarm, after that, Jonah went missing in action then Joe take his chance to skip school and search for his friend.
A great read for Years 7 to 9. A story about two boys named Joe and Jonah but Jonah goes missing. Joe never gives up hope and continues to search for his friend. The Lost is a well written and suspenseful story that doesn't linger but keeps the rollicking ride running.
