With the help of some gypsy magic, New Age storeowner, Chloe Nichols, the last in a long line of witches, will stop at nothing to get her happily-ever-after. Original.
Chloe Nichols wants nothing more than for her boyfriend Kyle to marry her. She is at the point where she may have to do something very wrong and that is have her baker cousin make her a magic cake that will cast a spell over Kyle and make him pop the question. The cake is made and as Chloe is having second thoughts, Kyle eats and piece. Soon after Chloe is engaged.
Now Chloe should be over the moon because all she has ever wanted was Kyle. But Chloe starts question her feelings for him when her best friend Alice, who also has magical powers, can see the future. She tells Chloe that Kyle is not her soul mate. Chloe makes light of Alice's warnings, but it seems fate won't be ignored. A tall, gorgeous man with the bluest eyes Chloe has ever seen comes into her store, The Mystic Corner, searching for a birthday gift. He is Ben Malone and the man Alice saw in her vision.
Chloe is torn between the steadfast Kyle and her new found attraction for Ben, who makes her blood boil in ways Kyle never did. With a little of her own magic, she will test the waters and see if Ben is really the man she should be with. Chloe is walking a very fine line and is in for even more surprises when a few ghosts come to her for help, one being Ben's deceased daughter Mari, who refuses to cross to the other side.
As I read A Breath of Magic, I was on the fence about how I felt, especially in regards to Chloe. I was not a big fan of Chloe at first because through manipulation on her part to get what she wants, she uses some underhanded means. She is so stuck on what she thinks should be the perfect type of life, that she does some questionable actions. But then after a bit of insight on the person Chloe is, I came to the conclusion that Chloe is a very lonely woman even with all those people around her who love her. She tries to justify her actions because she doesn't know any better and really believes she is doing what is best for her.
Kyle comes across as a cold fish, whereas Ben is everything a woman would want in a man. Tracy Madison can sure write a hot love scene. The one where Chloe and Ben first become intimate was too good and one of the best I've read this year. But sex does not heal all wounds, and when Chloe is finally upfront with Ben about her magic and his ghostly daughter, he acts the way I expected him to. The majority of the time he was shaking is head, confused by what was happening to him because of Chloe, and as the reader I was right beside him, feeling the same way.
A Breath of Magic is quirky and a bit out there with a heroine you may end up wanting to ring her neck half the time because she doesn’t know when enough is enough. But still, I found myself very interested in seeing how she and Ben would make their relationship work and the mystery behind Mari and her death.
Tracy is a skilled storyteller and I had no problems whatsoever with her writing. I just wished that Chloe was a bit more likeable. If you are interested in reading something light and fluffy with some nice love scenes, try A Breath of Magic.
This was a lovely read, and I finished it really quickly with the ‘one more chapter’ thing spurring me on through the plot. The main character was well-drawn, others less so, but I gather this is book 3 of a series so perhaps they have been more fleshed out previously. It’s a nice combination of magical, humorous, sexy romance with a bit of mystery thrown in. Got a bit too cheesy and perfect towards the end, which wasn’t to my taste, hence only 4 not 5 stars from me. I do think I’ll check out the other books in the series though because overall I did really enjoy it.
Finally, finally, finally got to this book. 1 year (according to goodreads) after I read book #2 in the series, so there's been a bit of a gap. Good thing, for the most part, these books act as stand alones that happen to be apart of a series.
I really liked the story here. Didn't like ther heroine, but she did grow on me as the book went on. But I enjoyed the too-sexy-to-be-true-hero.
More than anything, the best part of this book was that the storyline wasn't completely consumed with ther heroine trying to find her true love. She is also trying to understand her magic and help the hero deal with his past. For a good portion of the book, helping the hero deal with his situation, takes precedence over her love life.
Like other books in the series, this book has an assortment of crazy secondary characters, who are entertaining.
Overall, I am not gushing over this book like I had the first ones in the series. I can't really tell you why, but this just didn't quite hit the spot.
Chloe Nichols is a desperate woman. Despite the newly found distant blood relation with her long time best friend, Alice, along with the outpouring of love and acceptance from her newly acquired family, there's still a gaping hole in Chloe's heart that needs filling. It also doesn't help that her magic has yet to make an appearance; if in fact it ever will. Feeling left out on a whole bunch of different and complicated levels, Chloe is opting for action rather than await fate and all the uncertainty that entails. Coercing her cousin Elizabeth to bake a magical cake that'll ease her boyfriend's commitment fears, Chloe plans to propose and get started on her life despite the niggling doubts that constantly assail her. And she's not the only one. With the dire circumstances calling for extreme measures, Chloe's family launch an intervention that puts her on the path to four very different fates but only one can hold the key to all her dreams.
Enter Ben Malone. A drop dead gorgeous hunk of man meat that can heat a woman from head to toe with one glance, Ben ensnares Chloe in his web completely by chance. Never in her entire life has Chloe felt this way for a man and the effect has the ability to throw all her carefully rushed plans with her boyfriend out the window. It's also at this time that Chloe's magic bursts free along with a startling side effect of the dead seeking her out for help. The first ghost to plead her case: A teenage girl and she's some how connected to Ben. What Chloe soon realizes is that this path towards her happiness isn't going to be easy but rather there's a whole boatload of trouble that needs to be sorted out before any Happily Ever After can be attained.
Trouble Number One: Chloe discovers quickly that Ben is her fated mate. Alice, her cousin and best friend paints the future and she has a portrait of Chloe and Ben at the their wedding day. Not only does Chloe marvel at the happiness she views in her own painted face, she also falls directly into the painting feeling emotionally the powerful love that she has for Ben. Grasping onto this fate with wild abandon and a healthy does of desperation, Chloe is soon thoughtlessly trampling a few hearts and toes to get to her final destination.
Trouble Number Two: Ben is Chloe's complete opposite. He's a man of black and white while Chloe's new age spirituality allows her to view the world in a million shades of grey. He's all about numbers which have added up nicely for him in the form of a big beautiful home while Chloe is still clipping coupons and lives in a tiny apartment that can barely be dubbed livable. Finally, Chloe is recently being visited by ghosts and has also has come into her magic while Ben doesn't and can't and won't...
Trouble Number Three: Ben has a lot of emotional baggage. Without Chloe's magical gift to impart her will on others, he may never have even agreed to go out with her. This bit of "urging" on Chloe's part has her "pushing" Ben over and over again - all of which are little things but due to her need for him and their future that is fated, Chloe can't subdue her desperate emotions which consequently drive her magic. Frighteningly enough, there's a crazy ease with which Chloe can use her magic. To will someone to do what you want is a dangerous gift if used without a strong personal will power of one's own. With Chloe's desperation driving her magic, she's not stopping at all to think about the consequences but rather forges ahead while leaving a burning wake behind her. But the blaze catches up with her soon enough.
All of Chloe's troubles lead her to face each one of the four fates that Alice has painted and while only one leads to ultimate happiness, one also reveals the possibility of Chloe losing everything including her new family. If she doesn't control her emotions and the magic with she wields thoughtlessly over the will of others, Chloe will lose everything she holds dear. She must cease her crazed desperation for a happily forever after and learn to appreciate what she has already which is the love of a wonderful family. Chloe must first discover who she is, embrace her findings and live life. Only then will she be able to claim Ben as hers.
My Thoughts:
A BREATH OF MAGIC was exactly that, a breath of magic - or rather a book of magic. Told in first person, this is Chloe's story through and through about her growth from a terribly uncertain woman to one that fights adversities of her own making to eventually become a woman strong of heart and soul. A better person really.
Initially, I wasn't a fan of Chloe at all. She reeked horribly of desperation and the journey via her POV was often cloying but it soon became apparent that Chloe's character growth was going to be intense and eventually I learned to just hang on for what proved to be one wild ride. While desperate and a bit frantic, Chloe quickly turned endearing with her openness to others, her unfailing love for those that need help as well as her determination to bring light to Ben's darkened existence. In addition, her magic proved to be incredibly layered and really reflected who she was as a person. Her desperation was evident in her power to change another's will. Her tenacious will to help others magically manifested in her ability to help those that were trapped within the inbetween. For me, this is what made this paranormal unique. One's gifts didn't rest solely with the physical but was instead completely character and emotionally driven.
A BREATH OF MAGIC is a quirky and fun romance, one that conjures laughter and tears leaving you a true fan of the author. Be prepared to simultaneously wish to both strangle and hug Chloe while she makes many mistakes as well as good decisions. All in all this is a story about a woman for women and it can't get much better then that.
Oh yeah, the hero is totally hot too. I specifically chose not to say too much about Ben because he's a magic all unto himself. Enjoy!
Chloe Nichols has always felt as if she had no family. With her parents dead and her sister enstranged, she has only had her good freind Alice to call family. Until recently when, through Alice's magic, she learned that she is one of Alice's long lost gypsy cousin. Along with that she finds that she has the potential to be one of the many women to possess special gypsy magic. Her new-found cousins (Alice and her sister Elizabeth) have wished the magic on her, but it doesn't seem to be taking hold. Worried that she'll be the first that the magic doesn't take to, she decides to turn her attention to her somewhat anemic love life. And to do this she convinces Elizabeth to bake a magic cake to get her on-again, off-again boyfreind, Kyle, to say yes to marriage. Of course magic is never that easy. Especially when you realised that Elizabeth only said yes because the magic Chloe was afraid she didn't have was in fact working perfectly. Too perfectly. Kyle says yes. But only after Alice tells Chloe that Kyle isn't the man she's suppose to marry. Enter the dashing Ben, who accidentally walks into Chloe's store to buy something he doesn't really need on a whim he choses to follow. More than magic seem to be drawing them together, but with Chloes sudden drunken addiction to using magic, can she ever really know if Ben likes her for her? And what to do about Kyle? It doesn't help when a mysterious girl shows up asking for help and Chloe finds the girl linked to Ben in some way.
It's a tidy little mystery and a tangle of wonderful magic. I have enjoyed all three books in this series and look forward to more.
This is the third book in the Magic series. I read the first two (but you won’t see a review because I read them a while back and don’t remember what happened). But the gist is that Alice (A STROKE OF MAGIC), Elizabeth (A TASTE OF MAGIC) and Chloe all have special magical abilities, but are dormant until really needed. Or wanted. Like that famous line in Spiderman “With great power comes great responsibility,” Chloe learns that her abilities can be used for good, but if used unwisely, there are consequences that will come back and bite you on the ass.
I admit that I teared up a little towards the end. Ben is such a great, sexy guy, and his past is tragic, and the way Chloe’s gift helps him was a little awe-inspiring. To say the least. Even though I liked the first person POV (she’s quite funny), I wouldn’t have minded reading Ben’s POV of this New Agey, red-headed, beautiful woman who pushed her way into his life.
Not only did she break Ben out if his shell, she got him out of his clothes. In a most…interesting way. I have to say that I don’t think I could’ve been as bold as she was and be brave enough to pull it off. But let me tell you this…pages 144-163 ARE. FREAKIN’. SIZZLING. Chloe is my hero. You wanna know what foreplay is all about? Take a page (or pages) out of this book. She is the Mistress of Foreplay *bowing down to the Mistress.* Not only did I feel some liquid in the Nether Regions, I actually soiled my panties! I can’t say much more than….DAY-UM. And bless Ben for going along with it. LOL.
I've looked forward to reading this book since last summer and I was not disappointed!
Chloe Nichols wants her family's magic, but for some reason it seems to be skipping her by. She also wants a family, so convinces her cousin Elizabeth (from the first book) to bake a magical chocolate cake that Chloe can use so her boyfriend Kyle will say yes when she asks him to marry her. Her other cousin Alice and Grandma Verda show up to stop her from doing this. Alice has a secret she hasn't told Chloe. Alice used her family magic to sketch Chloe's wedding day and the groom is not Kyle! But Kyle eats the cake and says yes to Chloe.
But Chloe is in for a shock when Ben Malone strolls into her spiritual store and feels a surge of sexual attraction like she never has with any other man. She gives in and looks at the magic sketch and she is taken into the drawing so she is standing there at her wedding. It seems as if Ben is the groom!
Chloe also has a strange girl showing up at the shop who says she needs help from Chloe. This girl turns out to be a ghost! But I won't say who she is because that was the biggest surprise in the whole book.
Chloe breaks up with Kyle to go for Ben but now Kyle seems to want to be with Chloe and Ben is only out for some fun. Chloe's magic is also a surprise.
There is so much in this book to love. Even if you haven't read the other two in the series this one is worth a read. It's funny and sad and emotional and hot.

Chloe wants to find her true love and she wants to find him now. She's become a bit obsessed about it. With a boyfriend that doesn't believe in true love or soul mates it has been kinda hard. She is through with waiting and isn't above using magic to get want she wants. With a little help from her new family she hopes her dreams will become reality.
This book is the third installment in the Magic series. With each book it's always a new magic or talent and with each book the stories get better and better. I've always considered the first book, A Taste of Magic to be my favorite. But really each book has something special that I've really liked.
A Breath of Magic is a fantastically fun read, full of twists that will delight the reader. The gypsy magic is charming as ever. The story is emotional fueled, that you might want to have some tissue close at hand when you read it. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like Chloe, but she did grow on me. There were times when you just want to shake her, but she turned out to be a very lovable character. While every girl's journey in this series, has been difficult in it's own way. I think Chloe's has been hardest. But when all is said and done the emotional roller coaster both she and her true love went through is very much worth it in the end. This is one I would definitely recommend, especially for the true romantics out there.
I really like Tracy Madison's "magic" series and the 3rd book is no different. The story is fun with wonderful characters who you really become attached to. I love how Alice, Elizabeth and Verda play such big roles in this book so you get to stay in touch with characters who feel like they've become your friends.
Chloe and Ben's story is wonderful and there is a scene in this book that is so emotional it made me cry. That is something I can say does not happen to me often in the romances I read. The scene fit in perfectly with the storyline and was not there to just be a tear-jerker.
I hope that there is a future book with Chloe's sister Sheridan, as I think there is great potential for a storyline there.
While you can read this book standalone, my question is, why? The first 2 books in the series were so much fun, I recommend starting with them. Plus, the relationships between characters feel much more rounded if you've read the other books first.
This one isn't as good as the first two. The attraction is too forced, literally. Chloe is using her magic to force Ben to want her instead of letting it happen naturally. She also used magic to force Liz into baking a cake with magic so she could force Kyle to marry her. Then when she finds out about Ben she throws Kyle out and then it takes her entirely way too long to figure out why Kyle will not go away. Duh, the magic. After Chloe told Ben about his ghost daughter I lost interest. This books wasn't as fun as the last two. Things got too heavy and that is NOT what I am in the mood for right now. Then comes the rift between Chloe and her sister. I skimmed through a lot near the end and almost stopped reading. Then the second 'kidnapping' was just lame and stupid. I hope the next book gets back what the first and second book had.

Truly- if you enjoyed the tv show Charmed U will love this series.... it's magic and romance without the demons...
In this book Chole (Alice's best friend) finds out she is cousin to Alice and Elizabeth and the magic is passed on to her. Her's manifests itself as being able to will people to do what she wants BUT ALSO she can see and speak to ghosts....
Her romantic interest happens to have a tragic history and Chole just happens to happen to help him heal through providing him the opportunity to speak to a loved one who died but is unable to move on.
The book is FUN, witty and holds interest to the last page... at least, it did for me.
This is book three of a four book series. I recommend that the books be read in order because some of what I read was very confusing and the explanations are probably in the first two books. I like the author's take on witches and what they can do as well as how they come into their power. The storyline is interesting the main character wants to be married and her boyfriend is reticent about committing. All of sudden the young woman is told by another of her witch relatives that she needs to reconsider her choice of husband instead of having another relative help her get him to propose. As stated previously, I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read the books in order.
In Madison's paranormal romance novel, Chloe Nichols is holding her breath. Family and happiness have always been just out of her reach and a bubble her current boyfriend seems determined to break. Kyle has repeatedly shot down her hopes of that happily-ever-after dream of hers. But Gypsy magic has a way of pushing someone in the right direction at the right time. And Chloe needs a push in the right direction. An awesome story of pure magic!
Read this book very quickly, I really liked it. I can't figure out which one is my favorite in the series so far but they are all good books. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is because it doesn't really give out anything that I think will stay with me and it wasn't enough to love it but really like it none the less. Excited to buy the fourth one and read it on my husband's kindle on his phone! I think I know who the next person to have the "magic" will be but I'm not telling :P
Absolutely fantastic. My favorite of the three books in the series so far. I can't wait to see if there are more. This one was just as funny and quirky, but there was a point when it brought me to tears as well. Wonderfully written with characters you can't help but love and witty dialogue that will keep you turning the pages well into the night.
It was good, but it wasn't as good as the others in this series I've read. Maybe because I'm reading them out of order. I didn't care that much for the ending, it just seemed a little too easy for Chloe to make her decision about her magic. The HEA was great though, so I did enjoy the story. Still have yet to read Alice's story, but hopefully soon.
I really liked the book. There were a few pages in the middle (roughly page 149 on for a few pages)that had a very explicit sex scene that was not needed. If you skip those few pages the story is very cute and a good romantic story.
The first book was pretty good, the second was ok. This one was so boring to me I had to quickly skim it just to finish it. I found Chloe to be extremely whiney and annoying. I'm not going to even bother with the fourth book in this series.
Tracy Madison understands real love, she writes with her heart. I have enjoyed all of her books and am sad there aren,t more to read. Hurry up and write another please!
Although I'm enjoying this series, I would have to say this was my least favorite. I just never got as attached to Chloe as the other girls. But still a cute read.
Book 3 of the gypsy magic books. I thought the storyline was only slightly different from book one and 2. Still a good read though. It will keep you entertained.
