Tbh I think half of why I didn’t love it was because the cover was boring and the other half was that it was for class

Great critique of the scholarship surrounding 1 Peter. While appreciating 1 Peter he does take some opposing stances to the authors theology. For instance, in the last chapter he sides with Kathleen Corley on preaching against the household codes in 1 Peter 3.

Horrell continues to engage with the Renaissance of studies in 1 Peter, engaging with other recent scholars yet getting to the point. Excellent book.

It is not the most riveting visit to the neglected world of 1 Peter, but its last two chapters are engaging and worth the read.
