Lorna Schultz Nicholson's popular characters Josh, Peter and Sam are thrilled to be reunited at a hockey tournament in Kelowna, but a lot has changed. Sam now lives in Ottawa, Josh is dealing with his diabetes, Peter is becoming a major star, and all three boys play on different teams. Can they remain friends as they compete to be in the gold medal game?
"Cross check" by Lorna Schultz Nicholson is about a 14 year old hockey player from Calgary, named Josh who is in a tournament in Kelwona. Josh's captain is playing cheep hockey and Josh is concerned. He plays against his friends that he played with in a summer camp. When his captain gets hurt the team needs another captain. Their coach chooses Josh to be the third alternate captain. Josh hopes help lead his team to victory in the tournament.
Cross-check is a great representation of competition. While playing against his friends, Josh has lots of fun, before he loses his pins. I like how Lorna put all of her characters from different books all in a tournament in one book. This book shows how playing cheep doesn't get you too far.
