I read the first book over 10 years ago, and since I also had the second one in my library, I decided to give it a go, despite not being a fan of the first in the series (I did like the movie). I'm not pleased with the decision, to say the least. Maybe it's because it's a novelization of a script, mixed with the fact that apparently the author often does sci-fi, but this didn't work for me (although I'm certainly not the target audience, so...). I found it to be both too crass and too cutesy (there's puppies! they're cute enough on their own!). It follows the movie, but somehow manages to lose any charm on the way - and the second movie was already way worse than the first one. A fast and easy read, but I can't say much else in its favor.

My favorite part was when the Regina and Floyd didn't have the puppies anymore. My least favorite part was when Regina lied about the puppies to get them back,a nd then sold them back to George for more money than she was going to sell them to the dog breeders for.
