The book consists of short anecdotes concerning the fantastic and supernatural, all of which purport to be true. One familiar case of 12-year-old Lurancy Vennum, whose body was taken over by a dead girl. Altogether there are roughly 60 entries. The case of Shanti Devi was also known, as was the truly incredible case of Patience Worth. All very interesting but not a book to be read through at one sitting.
