One Step Away

This poetry is based on long nights staring into space waiting for ideas to arrive and running with them. This all started at my teenage home in Charleston, Illinois, where I lived in the country by the airport. I would climb up to the top of the roof, which was about two and a half stories tall, and watch the planes fly into the sunset. The airport was right below where the sunset was, so it always was a picturesque scene. The land is so flat in Charleston, Illinois, that the sunset can be seen all across the horizon. I now live in Santa Monica, where it is a totally different world, and my writing is being altered. I move a lot, so every time this occurs my writing style changes a little bit, but it keeps my work always moving. Most of my stories are derived from nature. The coast and forest of California were wonderful inspiration for some of my thoughts. Not all the poems are dark, but the book as a whole is an expression of my dark side. Many of these poems could only have been created on paper, because their issues can be touchy in real life. On paper, these can be less controversial, but still open minds to paths and venues of thought that they may not have previously pondered. I work in the film industry in Los Angeles, doing what I love, which is only thing you can do to be true to yourself. “Fate is the ending to the past that was beginning.”
