Inconceivable. How does this have such a low score with such few reviews on here?! This is my favorite version of this classic story. It's better than Disney's. Fight me.

It's a wild ride. Pinocchio is such an asshole before he's even fully carved. The story starts off with Geppetto going to jail cause the town he lives in is crazy and thinks he's abusing a puppet. He makes enemies with the Talking Cricket, who unlike Jiminy Cricket in the Disney telling, is a brown nosing little snitch. The story takes darker twists and turns, as well as nonsensical ones that make you question if Pinocchio really is the most foolish one in this story. Ultimately, it feels like Pinocchio worked hard and deserved to finally be a real boy, now that he stopped being a little shit cause real boys aren't... right? ...Right??

Some of the things flew over my head as a kid, like the Fox and the Cat. My naive, literal thinking child brain didn't fully understand how or why these cretins scammed Pinocchio. They should've gone after me instead. I even felt sad for them when Pinocchio was angry at them after they screwed him over so hard (yeah, should've gone after me).

If you can get your hands on a copy of this, I recommend it, especially if you've only ever seen the Disneyfied version.

A retelling of Pinocchio that kept the interest of my 6-year-old. The illustrations were good and it was nice to revisit the classic tale.
