I bought this book hoping that it would be a more involved guide to using the TI-83, providing me with examples of how to use the many functions of the calculator (especially since my manual has gone missing). However that is really not what I got.
By trying to be a basic guide to both mathematics and the TI-83, without really concentrating on either properly, this book fails to be any good at either and barely scratches the surface of what both have to offer. On top of this the format is rather silly; a large size (just under A4) and 300 or so pages sounds good at first until you open the pages and realise a full vertical third of each page is wasted on white space and the illustrations are unnecessarily large - not to mention the poor layout of the text. Talking of layout, the content of the book is not very well laid out, with repetition of some information across different chapters and some information hidden in unrelated sections.
Not a good book either for learning mathematics or for learning how to use the full set of functions that the TI83 offers. The TI83 manual itself is a far better resource for learning how to use the functions of the TI83 and what it can do, and for mathematics I would recommend the EDEXCEL Modular Mathemetics series of books.
