The Beacon on Kill Devil Hill

Rate this book
In 1942, more than 200 ships coming out of American ports headed for England were sunk by German U-boats. "The Beacon on Kill Devil Hill" depicts the story of one of those boats stationed off North Carolina's treacherous Outer Banks, where more than 500 ships have been lost over the past 400 years. Kill Devil Hill is the sand dune that Orville and Wilbur Wright, in 1902 used to launch their gliders, learning how to fly. This novel has traitorous Americans signaling a Nazi U-boat from atop the Wright Brothers Monument, using the beacon to relay coded naval activity coming out of Norfolk and the Chesapeake Bay.
