The duke's daughter, Violette, awakes with a start. She's traveled back in time to a whole year before she committed a jealous crime against her half-sister and was subsequently jailed. Determined as she is to use her second chance to lay low and live a quiet life, things around her grow ever more complicated--can Violette avoid her fate while overcoming the heartbreak in her past?
That went DARK. Not sure I liked it, but I have to read this series to the end. I HAVE to know how it ends!
3.5 stars, rounded down because I just want a HEA and our MCs are twisted and it’s just…weird and I want it to end well. NO clue where this is going. But I’m willing to read the next one to get there.

The thing about fairy tales is that very few of them are actually nice. They're full of rapacious wolves, wicked mothers, incestuous fathers, and horrible punishments. If Violette's second chance is meant to be happier than her first, she's going to need to change the story completely.
This series is still melodramatic as all get out, and most of the characters are half a step away from the cliffs of insanity, but Violette's PTSD speaks to my middle school soul. Middle school me needs her to be okay, and that's why I'll keep reading.
The revelations in this were actually fun and Yulan is carrying this entire series on his unhinged back.
The main issue is that this, again, took like half a step towards plot, while most of the time is spent on meandering scenes that add little (e.g. eating lunch together).
Plot needs to start happening in volume 4, big time.
Yea, these characters need therapy!! Lots of it! Was very confused in this volume cuz nothing moved forward in the plot and everything seems to be getting worse for poor Violet. I will read the next one because I need to know what happens. How will Yulan save her?
I am now reading light novels and have became entranced with this series. I really love what the author does, especially in this book. I am grateful to find this series. I am sad though that I will have to wait until December for the next book. This series is definitely my favorite, thank you!
This one was less me slightly weeping the entire time I read and more low key anxiety all the way through. Most importantly, we finally learn were Yulan was during Vio's arrest and trial in the first timeline.
Tied up some older threads and then introduced some new threats. Elfa is evil and finally we have some more people who care for Violette and help protect her but I'd love for her to steel up and start being ready to fight but I accept she's no way near that yet.
Finally, we have movement! It took awhile, but things are happening. Violette is understanding herself more, Yulan is doing…something in the background, and the dad and stepmom are being terrible. The psychological trauma is really coming out and I am definitely interested to see where things go.
Sometimes it’s a bit angsty but I find her writing quite beautiful at times, even with the translation, which makes it a joy to read. This volume was much more tense as Elfa becomes a villain.
still repetitive and overly internal. the yuhan revelation was mildly interesting but like. babes, stop mulling over your thoughts and go do something unhinged, i'm getting bored here
