Noah Stephens is being primed to become his father’s successor in the ministry. Morgan Foster stands to inherit her mother’s drug distribution empire. These two young people are products of completely different backgrounds, but against all odds, they meet and fall in love. Morgan keeps Noah in the dark about the family business as long as she can, all the while struggling to accept her destiny. Noah, too, is ambivalent about the future his parents have planned for him, but after his mother is seriously injured in a car accident, he makes a promise on her deathbed that he’ll join his father in the church. When Morgan finally reveals the truth regarding her family’s business, Noah is devastated. He urges Morgan to see the error of her ways, but the young woman is adamant following in her mother’s footsteps. Noah severs their relationship, only to rush to Morgan’s side when he learns of the struggles she is facing after her mother’s arrest. Will Noah be able to guide her to a relationship with the Lord this time, and help Morgan make the right choices about her future?

Michelle Larks writes a book from a young woman's perspective, Morgan, who will have to follow into her mother's footsteps into the drug game. She loves Noah, who practically grew up together, went to college and pursued their careers thereafter. After Noah mother's death, he has to change his career goal as an engineer to ministry. He desires Morgan to be his first lady, his wife. This is when the book picks up its speed, after Noah mother's death, and the truth is revealed from Morgan's lips about her legacy. Who wants this type of legacy for their children?
In the beginning, I believe since I read so many street-lit and urban fiction books on drug-prostitution-hustling game, it was hard for me to believe of Jenelle, Morgan's mom, is running an illegal drug distribution empire that started decades before. However, I had to be reminded, this is Urban Christian and comes from a different perspective to get a message across. It reminds me of a Scripture from the Book of Genesis, when God spoke to the woman, once the curse was laid on Eve (mother of all living beings) and women thereafter, "...your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you. (Genesis 3:16, NKJV)" Woman wants to rule over an empire, or over the head of their household, their husband.
Thought-provoking question that I pulled from the book, "Will we see the errors of our ways?"
This is a decent read for even young adults, both male and female! I am not sure if you are like me, once you get pass the first 150 pages or so, to Chapter 17, is when I was engrossed in the book...a page turner. I am glad that I did not stop reading back 100 pages prior. And once you get to the last 50-80 pages, it makes this book a 4/5 rating. Yet, I have to take everything in consideration with my rating overall.
I enjoyed the book but there needs to be a sequel.
Some many questions I have need to be in the second, third, or fourth book. If Ms. Larks, decided to write a sophomore book I would purchase and read it.
i thought that the book was very excellent it was touching it didnt have an lot of cussing or violence. it told a good story. i wonger what would happen if its was another book.
