Hero System 6th Edition's new basic rules set! For gamers who don't need the full Sixth Edition rulebooks all the time, Hero Games presents the Basic Rulebook; the 6E rules boiled down to a 128-page guide. The BR strips out all the options, variants, and expanded rules discussions to present you with the absolute core of the HERO System so you can easily learn the game or find the rule you want.
Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.
17 core stats. Really that is all I need to say and it is not the only complaint about it, but it really does bring up the crux of my issue with Herosystem 6E. It's just needlessly complex.
The game has 2 HP tracks, something I generally hate. 1 for like stun and the other for meat damage. It also has an endurance track to use your powers.
Then you have things like blasts that deal like 8-10D6 of damage. Man, who wants to roll and count 10 dice when you attack a target? That shit slowed Scion to a crawl and I can't imagine it being that much better here.
I was at first irritated that the KAtana was a throwing weapon, but you know what, thinking about Deadpool and DeathStroke, it plays. But the weapons are a pointlessly completionist list of things I can't imagine is better in the full rules.
All in all not the worst system I've seen (Outside FATAL that may go to Know Your Role), but it doesn't really bring me anything Mutants and Masterminds doesn't already do better
